Your chance to prove that Viper drag racing scene is ALIVE
OK, boys, here is the scoop. In light of all of the recent bitching and moaning about the Viper drag racing days being over, I have a chance for you to prove everyone wrong.
April 22nd at Atco Raceway in Atco, NJ. NSCA is finally coming to Atco this year! American Super Car Challenge is a program within NSCA and it features Corvettes vs Vipers racing heads up. Here is the website: http://www.racesupercars.com/
In addition to the Vette/Viper shootout, there are lots of other classes to watch/participate in. The cool thing about NSCA is the variety of cars that participate. If you like 10.5 tire Outlaw cars then you really want to make this race as the top dogs have been at each other's throats for few weeks already ahead of this event. Nothing like watching guys rip off 6 second passes on 10.5 tires! Check out NSCA's web site for info and rules about all of the classes: http://www.nsca-racing.net/
Atco has been voted the #1 NHRA Division 1 track 2 or 3 years in a row. The track has undergone major improvements over the winter and you will NOT find a better-hooking track anywhere in the Northeast.
In 2004 I drummed up pretty decent interest in this event and we had the best turnout of Vipers the series has ever had and I hope to do this again this year. So, if you can, come out to race or at least watch the races on April 22nd at Atco Raceway!
Paul, damn man! Can you make it a little closer to Florida, like maybe GA?
Sure, how about Indiana? NSCA doesn't travel that far South. Georgia? HELL NO. Doesn't the world's best Viper driver hail from GA? I sure would hate to read the next day on the forums about my Vette getting spanked by some over-the-hill Southern belle.
So back to the usual question... how strict are they on the safety equipment for vipers? do 11.5 and faster cars need a bar or cage? I ask b/c i'd make the drive from the deep south to whip all yo' azzez, but if they are gonna toss me (even though i have a roll bar) then i don't want to make the trip.
the vette vpier series has a nice schedule this year so far. seven races and some nice locations. i will do what i can to shut up, show up, and put up. since most of the events are within a reasonable distance from my shack i will take the chance at tech throwing me out for a nine second pass. plus, i still have an obligation to race the vette's top dog swinging dick, jerry. i gave Ned my word that jerry and i would grudge it out and i always keep my word even though i may be a season late. the only reason for my no shows last year was due to car issues and nothing more...thats a fact, period. i may disagree with the IHRA rules and most who know me know i usually only follow my own rules

JD, you only need a roll bar if you exceed 11.50. If you dip below 10.00 you need a cage. So, you're good to go. I don't want to mislead anyone but Atco is "very reasonable" about tech. Having said that, don't come with an 8 second ride with no safety equipment wearing shorts and sandals 'cause that's not gonna fly.
Sounds great Paul but I dont travel to Yankeeland in the winter except for weddings or funerals. Reformed Yankee here and spoiled now when it comes to weather. Plus your only looking to kick some Viper ass with that beast .

Oh, believe me, it'll be like a funeral Hey, I had to travel to Bradenton, you can return the favor. You and the wifey take a nice trip to New Joisey.
Coming to New Jersey this year on the Hot Rod Power tour in June. It starts in Orlando this year and goes up the east coast hitting 7 cities in 7 days and ends up in Englishtown New Jersey. Dam if Rippers going...
Power adders are limited to the following:
Restricted to one 76mm turbocharger or two 44mm turbochargers
Restricted to one nitrous oxide fogger nozzle, per cylinder
Restricted to one nitrous oxide plate system
ok 2 decent size turbo's are not allowed?
INTAKE MANIFOLD
Any OEM or commercially available production based intake manifold is permitted as long as it does not extend the carburetor or throttle body above the plane of the hood. Sheet metal intake manifolds are prohibited. Internal modifications are allowed.
what if it's a custom manifold that looks similar to stock?
so pretty much from what i have read at the ASCC site is that if you have a modified street viper with your basic twin turbo set-up you can not race. if you have any supercharger no matter how big all you get is a little weight penalty. you can even put in a solid axle with a little weight penalty. is this organization run by vette owners Paul???
One 76mm turbo or twin 44's!? One 76mm?! Is that per side? Twin 44's?! Do they even make turbo's that small or is that something you Vette guys made up just to see if Viper guys would go looking for them?
I believe anything that does not fit in those categories falls into anything goes/unlimited. What's the best time in unltd? 9 something I think. Maybe high 8.
Guys, the rules are under revision as we speak. I have been working hard to get the organizers to change some of the rules. They are very receptive and are recognizing the need for change. Check out this forum and how these rules are shaping up http://www.nsca-racing.net/phpBB2/vi...f09f3266b4880f.
Because the Viper car count has been on the low side, I am sure that the organizers would rather change some rules to accomodate a larger turnout than shut people out. My advice is just show up and I guarantee you'll run! You've got a choice of locations:
April 22 - Atco, NJ
May 20 - Cecil County, MD
June 24 - Edgewater Raceway, OH
July 22 - US 41 Drgway, IN
Aug 12 - Thompson Raceway, OH
Sep 9 - US 131, MI
Sep 30 - National Trail, OH
Oh, and to answer some of the question posted above...
viper tt/10 - as long as it's not a sheet metal intake, you're good to go. Modified intakes that look like stock are fine. The series is not run by Vette or Viper owners; the organizer is a performance shop owner.
Jason, your cars would run in Modified Supercar class anyway so you have no worries. It's pretty much anything goes.
Chad, the best time for the unlimited class was 8.80 but that same car has run 8.3s. There will be a couple of cars capable of 7s this year.
Ripper, the 2 fastest cars in the unlimited class this year are going to be running in the 7s. There will be at least 2 well into 8s and a bunch running low 9s. A lot of guys stepped up this year so this is going to be a competitive class.
I can not stress this enough - if you come and your car is within the safety regulations (or close), you will run. Another thing is that with the exception of the unlimited class, these are index classes so you can choose whichever index your car is running closest to.
