I have heard a lot about this race. There has been a lot of speculation about traction issues, weather conditions, etc. Here is the video. Judge for yourself...
I'm sure that different people will see different things, but here is my opinion...
You can clearly see and hear Darius lose traction in 3rd during the first viper vs 996 race(2nd race on the vid). This allowed the 996 to pull ahead by about a half a car. Darius lets out of the throttle, hits it again, and makes the fourth gear shift. Both cars are in it. The 996 is clearly planted, and the viper starts walking away. As soon as the GTS gets about a 1/2 car length lead, the 996 lets out. The rest of the video goes on to show the lack of spinning tires on the 996, and the consistent pull of the viper on the 996. I have read that the 996 was at a lower boost setting, but I can assure you that so was Darius at the lower speeds. Just about the time the 996 kept letting out, the GTS was reaching it's full potential(boost wise). I think it is worth noting that the 996 owner had "400lbs of audio equipment" removed from the vehicle just prior to the race.
Again, this is just my opinion after reviewing the video. I am not trying to tell you what to think. I am just calling it as I see it. Hopefully most folks can see, at the power levels the two cars came to this race at, with decent traction, the GTS pulled the 996 with no problem. Again, I don't think this says anything bad about the 996. I am blown away that a car as nice and refined as I'm sure that car is, can hang with the beast that I know the blue car is.
Again, Alex, congrats on a nice ride, and thanks Darius for putting it on the line. If you guys decide to line up again, I'm sure we would love to see the outcome.

Thats what it looks like to me. Seems like as soon as the GTS starts to pull the 996 lets out. Mayby down the line in a more deserted area you can do some highspeed runs.
Gary, it's clearly evident your old Heffie TT GTS is the stronger car.
Was there ever any doubt? I've seen some damn impressive 996 TT's up in the 700hp range but none stand a chance against that TT. Sometimes the sledgehammer effect just drop kicks you in the nuts as shown by that vid
I visited the 6speed forum and saw a guy say that from a standstill to north of 150 would be the best race. I actually think thats a great idea because, like he said, it gives both cars the chance to hit there sweet spots. Although, the new BFG DR may lessen the advantages of the Porsches AWD launches.
To me it seems like most the smack talking thats causing the bitching over there is coming from people on here not involved in the race. Both "partys" involved are handling it like real men!
When it comes down to it...both have BAD ASS cars, its just one guys favorite vs. another guys favorite. Both have their own sweet spots and both are fuckin quick.

In my opinion, the cause of the smack talking can be directly related to the original vid, it was pretty tasteless and misleading.

I agree. The bullshit comments in the original "BBQ Snake" video was what got me (and others over here) going. They had two original races. One where the two cars pulled pretty evenly up to 150mph or so. The second one was what was released by the 996 camp where D missed a gear and they claimed to "smoke" him. It is my goal to see BOTH parties represented fairly. Darius has assured me that several cameras will be rolling during the next race(s). As with previous races, we will let the cameras do the talking.
Great vid for sure. If the Viper got full traction on all of it's gears with perfect shifts I think you'd see the pulling happen a little sooner. Still both great cars, good clip.. but i'll take a snake anyday over a horse.
Good to see big blue still getting good use put to it
Great cars!!! The truth is that I bet both of them probably put you back in the seat with about the same force-- its just a slight difference. To each his/ her own. I would kill for either car and serve this as a reminder to all who own either awesome machine to remember how lucky/ fortunate they are.
For me personally... I love my Viper TT for all out unadulterated high speeds unleashed on a nice straightaway - it's an amazing feel! But, I love my 996TT for the twisties and everyday driving! They are both amazing in their own way and I couldn't part with with either one (unless of course something much better came along)

Gary, that first video was just a total fraud and they knew it.
The porshce guy had his stereo removed for this rematch! What next take out the passenger seat? He knew it was going to be close.
Next week he will have retuned/worked that car.
On the three final runs it looks like the filming is being done from the GTS's passenger seat. That is a 175-250 pound penalty. Don't let Darius do that on the next runs. Ditto have the windows closed especially if you are going for 100 mph+ runs.
Nice to see the blue car kicking ass. The first run looked close but the next three the GTS was the clear winner and if there was fog I can't see it.
