Thanks for all the tips you guys gave me. It really helped me utilize my track time. I was in my 94' RT/10. Mods are... Cone filters, No cats & Dynomax mufflers. I also have a smaller belt, bypassing my A/C. My car has 65,000 miles on it with Pilots at about 30% tread left. I made many passes at my test/tune spot with my G-Tech and couldn't seem to gat any lower than 13.0 passes. I was a bit discouraged wit my G-Tech runs, but not muce you can expect on the street with no traction. Oh well, at San Antonio Raceway, the track was prepped pretty good and the temp was at about 55-60 digrees. It sucked that there was a pretty bad headwind at about 15 mph.
First pass. I was on it HARD!!!! (just kidding, I was feeling the track)
60ft - 2.0
1/8 - 9.7
1/4 - 17.33!!!!!
Yes, A/C was mounted... It was squeeking when I got the car a few weeks ago, so I bypassed it, to try and find what the squeek was. I left it bypassed for the track to free up a few ponies. I have a new Gator Back belt for the A/C, I just havn't put it on yet.
No no, I meant did you turn it on with the belt bypassing the compressor. THAT is where you gain a couple HP from the short belt. Turn the A/C on and it bumps ignition timing a couple degrees
Just bypassing the compressor doesn't do a damn thing, that pulley spins free as can be if the compressor is not engaged.
Next time you try the short belt turn on the a/c and see if you notice a difference. If not then it's pretty much a waste of time.

Really? dam, I didn't know about that. It won't be bad to have the clutch and compressor running freely with no belt? I mean, I would think it would be ok, but just something I was thinking about. Next time I go to the track, I'm gonna do that.
About the free A/C-horsepower part, I thought simple physics would tell me that if I lessen the resistance of the belt, buy bypassing the A/C pulley, it would be less work for the motor to turn. I mean, it would be virtually nothing I'm sure, but on my mustang, when you bypass A/C, Smog and Power Steering, you get free ponies. Therefore, I thought I would leave the A/C bypassed on the Viper for kicks a the track. Silly for me I guess.
You are correct in thinking so, but with the a/c turned off that pulley spins with very low resistance. Use your hand to give it a spin, there is very very little friction there. PS would have a lot more benefit but thats rather hard on parts for 8hp.
No it won't hurt a thing by tuning the a/c on with the compressor bypassed.
Live and learn, sounds like you had a good time today :thumb:

I don't think anyone mentioned it earlier or if you did it, but you also might want to disconnect your front swaybar. Your definitely on your way to 11s.
Nice Video of your 11 sec pass Paul! I guess you better be a good driver to be runnin 8's in your other toy.

So Kenny, is this something to leave off the car permanently? I don't ever do twisities, even on street driving. I love the straight shoot, so if I can take it off and leave it off permanently, I will do this today when I change my oil. I don't want to be taking it off and on, if you know what I mean. I always took the front bar off my stangs too.

You may want to ask some others here about that. I've only had my SRT-10 a couple of months and I haven't wreched on it as much as I'd like because all my furniture is stored in my shop while my house is being finished. It's usually not a problem because I've done the same as you on past cars, but you do have to be careful that you don't create a handling nightmare.
I'm going to probably pull mine off soon and just drive around for a while cautiously at first to see. Someone mentioned somewhere that just pulling the front swaybar off goes a long way toward getting rid of wheelhop.
you can drive without the swaybar all the time if your only doing a lot of shraight shots. you will be in the 11's if you can get that 60' down .1 or so.
