Re: Quickest 6-Speed Street Supra vs. Quickest 6-Speed Street Viper Timesli
I agree its not that hard to make a 800RWHP Supra, my car made 700RWHP on ebay parts however the big difference which in my opinion is huge.. my Viper makes 800RWHP on PUMP GAS... no matter what you Supra boys say that will always be the trump card

You are the second person to bring up the halfshafts. This thread is about fastest 6 speed Vipers vs. fastest 6 speed Supras. Who gives a fuck about the halfshafts? Maybe the Supra ones are better, but what difference does it make? Run what you brung. In this case, people should be running a 6 speed Viper or 6 speed Supra.
WAR WHO HAS THE FASTEST NATURALLY ASPIRATED RED 2000 GTS WITH STOCK HALFSHAFTS AND STOCK STEREO?

I'm Ryan from Wide Open Throttle Motorsports in AZ. (www.WOTM.com) I have the Silver Supra that went 8.60's and 171mph.
I look forward to meeting some of you Viper guys in TX this year. I have some experience with Vipers and a lot of experience with Supras and it is infact a completely different platform. Both get the job done IF they are built correctly but each one has to be driven quite differently.
I think Adam (orlandov10) is wrong about a lot what he says about Supras and I think the majority of the people and cars he speaks about were built poorly. Just like anything, you can have all the best parts in the world and have it run like crap. Parts are only a small part of the equation. Tuning is huge and very few can tune well and make reliable power. And the whole "let's make as much power as we can on pump" is always quite comical as they are the ones MOST likely to blow their cars up.
I have a lot of respect for the Quick/Fast Vipers and I can't wait to line up in March. I have some things I want to try for the meet so hopefully I can drop some more tenth's and pick up some more mph It's never ending right???
I might even have a boosted Viper sometime in the near future...
**welcome to the board.. nice pass 8.60s

Re: Quickest 6-Speed Street Supra vs. Quickest 6-Speed Street Viper Timesli
Supras are HEAVIER than Vipers. Big brakes and fixed calipers on all 4 corners, cast iron block, and amenities such as power seats etc. put the weight of stock Supra turbos at around 3500 pounds.
As far as making HP on a stock bottom end they are pretty close, as far as I remember a Hennesey Viper (forged piston car) made 1087 RWHP on a 100% stock bottom end (TT car), Supras have made ~1100 RWHP on stock bottom ends as well.
For sure a Viper can make more HP on pump gas due to the fact that it has a 488+ cubic inch engine to the Supras 183+ cubic inch which means a Supra has to run more boost to make the same power and thus ~700 RWHP is the most you can get with the proper turbo setup and fuel system. I personally think this is a stupid argument unless you can't afford race fuel and if that's the case perhaps you shouldn't own a Viper or Supra.
I saw a post from Adam describing a Supra blowing up running 11:1 air fuel ratio, I 100% believe you. I know of a built motor turbo Viper on this board that had the same problem on race gas. Why? Because no matter how rich you run if you run too hot a plug and or run too much timing it doesn't matter how rich the car runs you risk the motor going kaput. Shit happens and motors blow, doesn't make the car any less capable. Tuned and setup properly Vipers, Supras and many other cars can make a lot of power reliably, period.
I for one am looking forward to seeing the only 6speed street 8 second cars in the world line up in TX in March, and I'm definitely glad these are all Supras and Vipers :thumb: It will be fun to see how the cars run at the same track under the same conditions!

It's very impressive what you can do with those, with less money then a Viper but in the end for looks and longevity I'd stay with the snake

Re: Quickest 6-Speed Street Supra vs. Quickest 6-Speed Street Viper Timesli
Yea I think the Viper motor is good for at least 1000RWHP(96-99), the Supra manages that with cheap hypereutectic pistons however Justin Nenni tells me anything over 800RWHP is asking for trouble on a Supra. Also I know I mentioned Justin Nenni's name earlier... just want to clarify, if I ever twin turbo my Viper Justin Nenni will be the guy getting the call to tune the AEM, that guy tunes an AEM better than anyone I know. I only mentioned his name to punctuate some of the hassle I've witnessed people have with their Supras, for exmaple... I have a friend Gene Dupont, he has a 94 Supra that we can't figure out whats wrong with it.. the car has a big turbo, ported heads, built motor with 3% leakdown and good compression, AEM, cams, 1000cc injectors, Tilton, etc.. tuned by the best, Justin Nenni... Well his car once made 860RWHP at my shop, we built the car from top to bottom and he had many many street races with local motorcycles... he was the #1 guy on the streets to beat at the time. Well he raced a motorcycle and lost to an R1, something happened during that race, we re dyno'd the car on my dyno and it came back at 720RWHP then the turbo T88H blew on the dyno, we automatically think the turbo was the issue so we bought a SP76 .81 AR I think, we put this turbo on and it still makes no more than 720RWHP, sent the turbo back to SP it checked out ok, good compression, good leakdown, been over the AEM, pressure checked for leaks with the smoke machine, etc... the car is just down on power. Rolo from CFT since pulled the head and reworked it, however still 720RWHP. We are out of options at this point, this is just one story of my Supra hassles.
If anyone has any pointers feel free to chime in, the poor guys been down for a year.

This car had VPC/SAFC piggy backs, no timing control on the stock computer, he was using 3330's. That stock intake is known to lean #6.
I agree Guilly, Texas will be huge.. I don't know if I'll be coming though, it would be nice to make it but its so damn far.

That's certainly a-typical, I would suspect the gas in the car, even if it was supposed to be race fuel (probably given the wrong stuff) or the injector itself.

The Supra is 10x more drivable to me. Sure know power until 5k, but thats only if your flooring the car from 2k rpm. Who the hell does that? Just downshift and your off. If its from a stop then rev and slip it at a high rpm. Sure the viper can get away with it at a much lower rpm, but it also gets like 10mpg while the supra is getting close to 25+mpg.
Point is there always trade-offs, Different powerbands that accomplish the same thing. This is also the Supras first few outings with the new stroker motor, so there is plenty left on the table also.
A Supra with a $300 meth system with boost activated nozzle. Also, Supra wont have to stop every 200 miles to fill up on gas and let the side sills cool down
To each his own, Both cars do what they are supposed to do very well.
I get close to 25mpg now...

I've had a lot of questions about my Supra as well so I thought I'd share that the car has:
Bone stock OEM 6spd Tranny
Stock Rear end with a TRD LSD
Stock Axles
Modded stock Driveshaft
Stock control arms
Stock Motor Mounts
Stock Tranny Mounts
Stock Diff Mounts
Still has A/C parts in the car (just missing the lines)
Still has Powersteering
Still has ABS
Still has full interior
Still has a stereo as well
The only weight savings the car has was a result of the Tilton Clutch which happens to be very light. Nothing else has been taken out to save weight at all!
Sweet post Ryan.... :thumb:

No you didn't, I did have a terrific reaction time however my car was spinning the "ET Streets" like crazy til the 330ft mark, you can -clearly- see it on the video. You know regardless IF Jeff Gordon drove my car went the VERY next pass 10.1 and you will see even better times coming up. Stay tune.

Adam, just bring your car to the biggest/baddest Supra/Viper meet in the U.S. and run Jesus in ideal conditions, at one of the quickest/fastest tracks in the country! I can't wait!
CHAD - post your 6-speed timeslip if you can so we can compare!

Always trying to stir up shit aren't you Tony. Orlando v10's biceps are bigger than your head. He could pop your peanut skull in an arm lock like a ripe zit. Jesus on the other hand could send you straight to hell. Best be careful here my friend.
