ECU for Viper engine from wrecked car

I'm looking at a salvage yard engine. ECU is damaged. Is it easy to purchase one from Dodge? Do you need a a vin #? I'm not planning on putting it back in a Viper.

Re: ECU for Viper engine from wrecked car

dumb question... how do you know it is damaged?

ECUs are easy to come by. Sean Roe has them, or they come up forsale all the time.

no, you don't need a VIN #. This ain't no chevy!

Gen1 ECUs are not one-piece JTECs. They are a siamesed abomination of a 4 and 6 cylinder unit. If you find a good pair, it might very well be worth buying.

This is a 05 Gen 3 motor. Looks like MP makes a combo ECU and harness to allow installation in project vehicles. I want to put this in a E Body car.
Anyone done this? What are the firewall issues with the longer motor?

I've seen it done and it looks really stupid. Personally I would stuff a big cube V-8 in there and put a 5 speed tranny behind it. The yellow 70 that Mopar was showing all over the place looked pretty hacked up (especially the interior)

If you want a new engine get a 6.1L new hemi and throw that in there. Hasn't been done yet to my knowledge and you won't have to screw around with the firewall.

I'm not interested in the total Viper Interior look like the cars at SEMA. Just would like a retro rod E body with modern suspension and brakes. The V10 should be just on cylinder bank longer than a 340. The trans is long too. Need to figure out where the shifter will come through the tunnel.
There were several 5.7 Hemis in E bodies at SEMA this year. Problem with the new 5.7 is it doesn't have a bottom end to hold any HP. A V10 is ligher and more powerful.
