Just wanted to know how all of you are liking the switch to the Vipers. Just looking for any input as far as pros/cons. I've talked to a few people that have had both and so far they've all favored the snakes, so i'm really on the edge and about to make the jump (before ever getting the Supra haha).
Also, I know this is a really noob ass question but what improvements were made between 1999 and 2000 on the GTS? I'd really rather go 1999 GTS and have the forged pistons and stronger motor overall, but I was wondering what changes were made to the rest of the car.
I can tell you this, but keep in mind that it's NOT a fair comparison until the TT stroker package is done on my Viper. The Supra had 1132 rwhp and was a handful on the street, but it was FAST, 160 mph in the 1/4 fast... The interior fit and finish was TOP NOTCH, A/C rocked, quality was on par with what you'd expect from a Lexus. The Viper as of now is bone stock, only mods are wheels/springs. The Viper is MUCH more exotic, but the interior SUCKS compared to the Supra, as does the fit and finish. I LOVE the instant TQ, which I didn't have in the Supra, and I love the fact that you can gear this car in such a way that it does 80+ mph in second gear. It just doesn't feel like the motor is working that hard at 6k rpm. As for power, it's a DOG compared to the Supra, but then again like I said, the Viper is still bone stock. A better comparison will be in 6-8 weeks when the Viper is mod'ed.
Hope that helps.
Peter
DChan - have you had a Supra before? I only ask b/c 50% of what you say is true. Yes, if you have a Supra (or 7 in my case) then you'll always dream about getting a Viper (but ONLY one that makes over 1100 rwhp - in my case anyway), but you will NEVER forget about the Supra... Especially if you've been lucky enough to have had 3 98's that were all low mileage and all clean...
Peter
IMO the supra and viper are at the top of the food chain in terms of modability. I don't know if I favor one or the other, both have their pros and cons. I just sold my latest supra to get a viper and i will have another supra someday. It is just time to try something different.
A big thing for me is not having to run race gas all the time
Well your case is extraordinary Peter because you had one bad ass supra. I had a 93 with a T78 and it was quick, but I wouldn't say it was 100% streetable. I just never wanted to put the money into it that was necessary to bring it up to a level I wanted to be at. Because I knew that no matter what else I did to it, It wasn't the car I wanted to end up with. I kept my Rx7 though and someday I might find a clean Supra to play with again too. I cant believe those things are still selling for $30-$40K. I have no regrets on getting the Viper though. It has so much potential and is the ultimate platform to build a fast car on. The Viper scene is just so far behind the imports as far as technology that we haven't seen the limits yet.

Supra's are nice for sure, a few friends of mine in the service had them. But dont forget out in the general public if you drive by with a header and 3in exhaust on a Viper people turn heads to see where the V-10 rumble is coming from. with a Supra depending what year and with an exhaust you get the same reactions but instead the people are wondering where all the fart can noise is coming from
Seriously though, you had a really Sweet Supra for sure

If you have never had a Supra and are thinking of getting a Viper then I suggest going straight to the Viper. Like Peter said there are some "shortcomings" to the Viper once you get used to the Lexus-like quality and refinement of the Supra, this is one reason I knew I would have to own both at the same time to be truly happy.
As far as engine sounds, I like the way my Viper sounds but Supras sound better (no it doesn't sound like a the typical ricer 4banger). Frankly exhaust sound is not one of the Viper's strength, especially when the cats are removed, the sound is too "blatty".
Bottom line? The Viper IS a badass machine and you will be happy with it, same applies to the Supra.
BTW Peter, I got you beat, I have had 13 Supras

Less streetable? That statement requires a great deal more clarification if you're comparing a T78 Supra to any modified Viper. The Viper and Supra cannot be even in the same statement if you're comparing the quality or refinement aspect of the two. They are two completely different type of vehicles where I'm not sure they are comparable in too many ways.
Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. So basically what I'm getting out of this is that the Viper is the way to go unless I'm hung up on interior comfort, which I'm not because I have Yukon now that I'm going to sell and a H2 on the way which will provide the comfort when I need it.
It makes my decision a whole lot easier when I see some of the big guns from the Supra community like Garth and Peter, whose cars I was looking up to, enjoying the Vipers so much. And so many others from SF ready to make the switch. BTW, congrats on the SCC feature a couple months back Peter. :thumb:
Too bad I won't be buying until late next spring, but I'd rather get the confusion out of the way now. Might take a trip up to Woodhouse Dodge and check out what they've got in, and get Bill to take me for a drive since I'm only about 20 minutes from there.
I had an upgraded Supra... it was fantastic, and I still miss it. But, I've had 5 Vipers since then. I can honestly say that I won't go back... maybe add one to the collection, but not go back
I've had over a dozen Supras since 1996, my last one making 700+RWHP I won't go back either, I like the interior of my Viper, I think it looks 10X better on the exterior and I like making 600+RWHP and nearly 700RWTQ every day on pump gas trouble free. One thing though... this is not a daily driver, the Supra I would drive everyday in traffic, take it to a NFL game, just drive it anywhere at anytime without thinking twice, the Viper is a whole other story... I am very selective on where I drive it and even more so on where I park it an leave it. There will be people around your Viper and asking about it nearly every stop you make. The other day my friend seen a guy sit his two kids on the hood of some poor guys parked Viper so he could take a picture of his kids on the hood of some guys parked RT10, there are jackass's out there that will come out of the woodwork when you own one of these cars.

That shit there pisses me off regardless if it was my yugo or my enzo............I wouldn't want someone touching my stuff without permission and definitely not doing something like sitting on it

Man, I would be hella pissed. If someone did that shit to my viper while it was parked.%$#@$%!!@#$*&^%$
You know another thing that pisses me off is. WHen I park my viper lets say at the local mall, or grocery store. I usually park it far away. YOu know away from everyone else. When I come back. I see someone else park right next to my car. And its some normal car. I always wondered why they do that?? bunch of dumbasses

The funny thing is, if the guy caught him and went over, the guy taking the pics would have acted all surprised like... "What! how dare you not let me walk up to your car and sit my kids on it" Why don't you know just by owning that car gives ME the right to do that Honestly the guy should have apologized, or at least asked to take the pics first

Just to piss you off so you wonder why. I have some friends who do this in their beaters. My friends have no intention of dinging the car because they wouldnt want that happening to them, but it freaks out the owner of the nice car.

Come on Peter...... You know that a large pair of turbos, 950+ RWHP + 1150+ RWTQ Viper on pump gas will feel waaay faster than your 1132 RWHP Supra....
Torque? .......I will start off in 4th gear and KICK YOUR ASS! Right?==> That's what I'm talking about! :thumb:
Interior refinements.......... I want to be comfortable when I spank you silly..........that's for pussies!
Congrats on coming over to the dark side! By the way, Beautiful car! You Supra guys sure know what to do to make it look GOOD! :thumb:
