ACR coilover shock leaking oil

Driver rear coilover shock leaking oil out the top seal badly on my (excuse me, the 'shop') ACR. Pretty sizable overnight oil puddle. Question is, is this unit rebuildable? if so, where to get a kit? If not, where to get replacement.

Last question- I havent had time to even look over these shocks to see if there is a dampening adjustment. I have already adjusted the spring heights but I would really like to dial down the damp rate. Is there an adjustment?

Koni or Dynamic Suspension? I suspect DS since they are notorious for leaking. If they aren't frozen then they should be rebuildable. I'm not sure who rebuilds DS but Konis are rebuilt by www.truechoicekoniracingservices.com

All ACR shocks are both rebound and compression adjustable.

Thanks chuck. If I look closer to the shock body I will see these adjusters? Intuitive or a trick to making adjustments?

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

Koni's.

I just talked to Dave at Roe. He says super expensive to replace. Dealer wants >$3000 a piece new?! He didnt quote a rebuild. Is there a kit I can buy and attempt a rebuild on my own? Anything special about the rebuild? (ie, something needs pressed off/on, etc).

Also, ok to drive on it for a while?

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

I sent four Koni ACR shocks to TrueChoice. One was entirely replaced for about $900. The other three were rebuilt for a bit more than $300 each.

They are not difficult to rebuild but it would be best to have someone show you first. There are a couple tools you'll need as well.

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

They are Koni 2812s if that helps. Shouldn't be hard to find a replacement if need be.

The adjusters are little "dials" with holes in them at the top of the shock. You can't miss them. If I remember right, adjusting to the left zeros them, to the right maxes them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You have a phone number or website to True Choice? I did a search engine on them and didnt immediately come up with anything. Thanks for the info.

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

I have seen many ACR shocks leak or break. many owners have opted to put stock shocks on their ACR's. KW adjustable suspension kits are also a good alternative and will last a long time.

Only if the KWs are two-way adjustable. I wouldn't waste my time putting single-adjustable on a Viper.

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

I've been looking for someone to rebuild a dynamic suspension. Anyone know who does it? I'm not looking to spend $3,000 on suspension right now.

As a side note, I did find someone to sell a H&R coil-over system new for $2,100.

Chuck 98- I do not see in any of your replies the contact info for True Choice. I also looked on your website in you sig, nothing mentioned there, either. Any contact info you could pass on would be great.

Tanked- where did you find those coilovers at for $2100?

Re: ACR coilover shock leaking oil

Gen 3: Group 2 Motorsports. www.group2inc.com 206.378.0900 Also try Auto Performance Specialist, 206.277.8676 I haven't tried Autosport Seattle but I know they sell Tokico, Koni and Bilstein www.autosportseattle.com 206.621.1940

Hope that helps. I really need to get this Dynamic shock (passanger side rear) fixed. It leaks like a SOB. I just can't seem to find anyone who rebuilds them.

goddamn, I need to schedule a physical, have my eyes checked. I swear I re-read your replies a half dozen times. I still refuse to believe I am getting old, though. Thanks Chuck. I will call them Tuesday.
