Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best \"deals\"

Ok over in Corvetteland there were several shifters to choose from, is the Ripper the stick of choice? anyone know who is discounting them?

How about a Corsa cat-back, who is making very little money out there on these?

Thanks

JB recommended against the Ripper for my 98, he suggested a short shifter knob?

Short shifter is when they cut the shifter and it provides a shorter throw. I have driven a few Vipers with the Ripper and it's pretty good, I would recommend either way for a shortened throw.

I was told the same thing. Try one of MGW's Snake Gripper or First Srike knobs first and see how much you like it. If you feel that it doesn't shorten the throw enough, then look into getting the SVSI or Ripper shifter.

i hate my short shifter knob! i am getting the first strike knob and i put the B&M ripper in hoping for smoother shifts. it is shorter with just the knob, but not very smooth i dont think....

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best

OK, for the slow Viper learners (me)
I can go with a shorter shift knob,
Shortened stock shift rod
Ripper
Any combination of any of the above?

What was that SVSI brand??

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best

i have "heard" good things about the svsi shifter....the problem with getting advice on something like this is it is purely opinionated. what i like, you might not, so the best advice would be to drive one with the shorter knob and shifter. i didnt have that luxury, so it has become a pricey guess.....

You need look no further than the link below for both of these items. We have sold literally hundreds of cat backs with not the first unhappy customer!

As for shifters, check out our "billet pistol grip shifter". It is an industry exclusive, designed to allow positive shifts every time as your hand, arm, elbow and shoulder become aligned with the shift gate instead of trying to shift by cupping your hand over a ball or knob.

Both of the items that you are seeking are in use on MY OWN Viper which runs consistant mid 9 second times. I wouldn't have any other shifter or exhaust system on my car.

Best of luck,

Tom

Tom,

do you have a pic of your shifter by any chance? I have a MGW shifter and while i like it because it is shorter (= shorter throws), your post piqued my interest (being the poser that i am )

Thanks!

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best

You could get any of the shifters here if you like them, but if all you need is shorter throws, try Rich Detert. For 25 bucks you can keep the stock knob and get a shorter rod. He has 3 sizes and I went with the 3 inch. Best 25 bucks I spent on the car. Since I don't have aluminun trim none of the shifters from BTR or MGW really matched the interior well. But if you have an ACR it would probably look good with all the aluminum look bezels and door handles.

I also investigated shifters and decided on the KP engineering. I know a few of the ripper shfters broke so i don't know if it was a design flaw or a bad batch.

I got the best price on the corsa from JonB, but that was a year ago. Maybe someone has lower now, but JonB is usually pretty good

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best

i dont agree with the MGW knob not looking good, but to each his own. the majority of the knob is wrapped in that rubberish material, and the only thing you can see is the sneaky pete, or shift pattern in polished or flat finish. i think the knob is top quality and low key. The BTR knob is HUGE, and although it might be designed for consistent throws, i would take my chance on a 60 dollar knob before i ever spend 250 dollars on one that is taller than the stock one!

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best \"deals\"

I have both the ripper shifter & the shorty shift knob. Personally, for my use, the ripper shifter was a waste of money & effort. I do like the shorty shifter though.

I have tried both the 3" & 2 1/2" Corsa exhaust & I do like the sounds of both of them. It does get rid of that annying drone. Bothe the 2 1/2" & the 3" have the dsame tone, only the 3" is louder. While I like the looks of the 3" tips, I did like the sound of the 2 1/2" set up better. The 3" Corsa is currently on the car now.

Re: Shifter & Cat-back-which one and best

Viperholics,

If your looking for an great deal on an exhaust, I may have one! I currently have the 2.5 inch Corsa cat-back on my '98 GTS, like new condition. I installed it on the car about 2 years ago, with NO regrets. It sounds and looks great! Much less restrictive than the pathetic OEM exhaust. Although, due to the future installation of my Roe SuperCharger, I was forced to purchase the 3' Corsa + Headers to free up additional flow for the added power. This 2.5' Corsa exhaust is complete will everything needed to install (All clamps/2 gaskets), and I still have the original factory boxes and packing for safe shipment. Still have the original installation instructions as well. IMO, the Corsa is the best sounding (subjective), best looking tips (subjective), and by far the best quality. The welds are a work of art on this thing. Annoying drone is gone as well.

This system will produce the same HP gains as the 3', on a Viper that is stock or lightly modified. Once you start to get into moderate+ to highly modified Vipers, the 3' will be of benefit.

Describing sound is a hard thing to do, but www.corsaperf.com has a few sound bytes you can check out. IMO, * Louder/meaner at idle. *Quieter in the cabin when cruising (under 2500 RPM's), although louder outside the car. *When accelerating, the thing screams. Much louder than stock, and very exotic sounding.

*I will need 1-2 weeks for removal of the 2.5 Corsa, as it is still on my Viper.

O.K. How much? $700 plus shipping. The price is firm.

Let me know. First come, first serve.
