GTSR blocks VS. STOCK blocks

Are the stock blocks very close to reaching to their potential?

Will improvements to the stock block (girdle etc.) be enough when pushing the envelope to 2000hp?

Is the GTSR block capable of sustaining higher power levels on a hiboost turbo application for a longer period of time compared to the stock blocks?

feedback please

I was under the impression you have used the GTS-R block before, no?

What has been your experience?

Re: GTSR blocks VS. STOCK blocks

If we had a Viper block we could build a main cap girdle (ala CNC machine). I think the key to this block is going to be keeping the caps from walking around. We have already done one for the LS1's and working on the LT1 blocks as well. The key is to tie the caps together, but to distribute the force into the block sides and not just the caps alone. Their should be no reason why they couldn't reach that number though. Possibly half fill of the block might be necessary.

Re: GTSR blocks VS. STOCK blocks

How about Jeff Morys, Greg Good? or any other engine guys out their have any info on the GTSR block?

I'm asking this because I would like to hear if there's any first hand knowledge about the (journal size, main cap, cooling, overall strength etc.) in the GTSR block and why that makes the block have more strength?

Anyone using this block in a hi HP TT application?

I'm also asking because we have 5 GTSR blocks in their crates (1 currently spoken for)

We have already experienced this

Building a girdle for the stock block will hold the bottom together but the sides will need the same reinforcement. The journal dia. of a GTSR block is smaller and thus stronger and able to rev higher rpms The sides of a GTSR block are also reinforced. The main caps are stronger, thicker and tie in the bottom better. Overall they have everything built into them that will need to be upgraded in a stock block :thumb: and they also have a much better cooling design.

The GTSR block sustained 800hp for 24 hrs and won for years. If a stock block could perform under the same conditions they would have used it.

We'll see

Re: GTSR blocks VS. STOCK blocks

I am trying to get my hands on a stock Gen2 and Gen3 block to design some pieces for it. Like I said we have done this already with the LS1's. I think the stock block can do it, just needs some attention to address the weakness issues. The GTSR block is much like the C5R block that GM made for the Vette. Stronger in everyway from the factory. But with some attention to the stock LS1 blocks they are up to 1500+ hp already and are living quite well as long as dentonation is kept down and the AFR's stay conservative.
