Viper owners with after market xenon headlights. Need your help. pls
Im in the midst of installing my aftermarket xenon headlight kit. There is no room to mount the xenon ballast and ignitor box inside the headlight assembly. I would like to know where did you mount the ignitor and ballast. What location? Thanks your info will really help me out...
Thanks,
Lee

You talking about and srt or rt? I mounted hids for my srt to power my fog lamps. I used the metal brackets that hold the bumper in place to secure the ingniters. Worked great.

I mounted mine toward the center of the car on the inside of each housing. There are some great pics over at the the VCA site. Do a search there. If I get more time I will fwd the link.
Mine fit with no problems and I love the lok. Next up are the fogs to match!
Good luck and post some pics!

Radta,
Thanks for your response. Please find that VCA site for me. I am of dying needs of seeing some pics. So I know how everyone else has installed their HID kits. There is just absolutely no room inside the lighting housing to put the ballast and ignitor + plus the xtra long wiring. All inside. Thanks again, and hope to hear from you soon...

I posted some of my installation photos in my gallery. (Not sure how to post them in the thread.) I ran a large gauge cable feeding off the jump post so that there would be no issues with the stock wires frying from the high current drawn during the HID start-up process. My kit had a thick plastic cover over the ballasts that I had to remove in order to get them to fit in the headlight housing. Hopefully this helps.

MD,
Thanks. I saw your gallery. It seems that your HID kit is more complicated than mine. You did alot of cutting and splicing wiring. My kit is fully wired and harnessed. I just plug in the original power plug. Which went to the halogen bulb to the ignitor and thats it.
How come I didnt see an ignitor module on yours? Is it all built in one? The ignitor is a seperate smaller black box.

I added a few more pictures that show how to access the headlight assembly and how to remove the inside of the headlight itself while leaving the outer shell intact. I would only use the "plug & play" installation method with caution. Over time, many HID start-ups, in theory, could damage your stock wiring harness. As I understand it there are many people who have done their installation this way (it is much easier than installing another harness with relays and the need to access the battery directly.) The worst I have heard is some blown fuses.
My kit has two ballasts, one for each light (it says Philips and has a yellow tag in the picture.) I'm don't have an "ignitor module" (different than a ballast?) The kit came with an add-on wiring harness as well.
The stock wiring harness was left untouched. The only splices I made were to the add-on harness in order to get it inside the headlight assembly, as the connectors on the ends are relatively large. The power from stock harness activates two relays in the add-on harness which them connects the ballasts to the battery. The HID bulbs plug directly into the ballasts.
The other difficulty was connecting the power lead to the battery, given its location. I soldered a connection to one of the large gauge wires coming off the jump post area that is also tapped into to supply power to my VEC2.

Lee,
It looks like your kit gets around the potential blown fuse problem by replacing the stock headlight fuses up front with larger fuses.
I would guess that the separate igniter shown in your schematic (which is not in my kit) is built in to the Philips ballast. If you can't mount both the ballast and the igniter inside the headlight due to lack of space, then you are going to have to do some splicing and mount something outside of the headlight. It looks like you still should have room for everything inside of the headlight assembly if you get a little creative.
