I was reading a while ago, and several people commented on the 96-99 GTS haveing a hoter cam stock, thus responding to mods alot better. I also ran across the same kind of information rregarding baffled oil pans..
I tried searching for the threads to show my father (whos intrested in buying a viper) but I cant find them, yes I searched, but this search engines gives me shit loads of useless results,.. 10-15 posts from the same thread,.. absolutly freaking worthless..
So any help would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks
It's the Cast Pistons vs. the forged pistons that make the difference in responding to mods. Like Chuck said above.... After 1999, the Viper went to cast pistons and they didn't respond to , for example, exhaust mods as well as their earlier year brethren..
2000 also went with a milder cam with 6 degrees less overlap and revised lifters. I can't vouch for it but supposedly this results in a smoother idle. I believe the milder cam is why you don't see the response to the exhaust mods rather than the material change of the piston.

They also came with tube headers I believe, where as the earlier cars have crappy cast ones (therefore later cars respond less to exhaust upgrades because their initial headers are better anyway).

You are correct sir!! Cast headers also weigh a half a ton each.
In 1998 they went to tubular headers and dropped approximately 24 lbs off the motor. The cam issue is an oft debated one, but the cast pistons use the same process as the TT Porsche and ZO6 , resulting in less reciprocating mass. The fastest Viper ( bone stock, GTS or RT-10) dragstrip time ever, was an 11.7 at Englishtown in a 2000 RT-10. The fact that aftermarket cat back units work better on cars before the tubular headers is very realistic. Surprisingly I got better gains on my 2000 with a Corsa than I did with my 98 and a Borla. Many think that might be the system , whereas others claim it is based on the year of the Snake. I tend to believe more on the system. Gains with high flow cats have been extremely marginal, but lower sidesill temps and throater sounds do seem to be indicative of the change.
