Are vipers hand sprayed painted at the factory?

Just curious, I have a 97 GTS viper, blue with white stripes. And seen other vipers to. Theres hardly ANY orange peel on Vipers. My 3 series BMW factory paint has alot of orange peel.

On my fiber glass hood. Blue with white stripes. I can also see very faint wet sanding marks. Under flourescent lighting. Other than that the paint job is flawless. Any thoughts?

My understanding is the body is delivered to the assembly plant painted.

No way are they wet sanded and buffed at the factory. Call your hood a repaint. Want to see orange peel, I'll take a few pics of my black GTS.

My ACR had a few factory sanding marks too. If you look close enough, you'll likely see defects in the paint on most Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars.

I know they got a final buffing at the factory after assembly, but I doubt any wet sanding took place at the factory.

My clear coat is extremely smooth.

Thanks for the info. I wasnt sure what to think of my 97 GTS/blue white stripes. Cuz my cousin bought the car new. And thought maybe the factory scratched up the original paint job and did a re-paint on the hood or something.

Conner Avenue assembly doesn't have a spray booth. They come painted by the suppliers.

A couple years ago, I visited the assembly plant & then off to the the place where the parts get painted (I forget the name), which is an outside vendor. Feast your eyes.

Oops, the center is being repainted. I wonder who got that one??? :doh:

WOW thank you so much for sharing these pics. Man I was right. Our vipers are hand sprayed just like at the body shops. Wet sanded to. No wonder i can see some wet sanding marks on my viper hood . Under flourscent lights.

On a side note, the front & rear fascias were painted at a third plant & delivered direct to the Viper assembly line. That's why the color may be slightly off from the rest of the car's finish (more notaceble on the blue cars).

yes. I have a blue white striped 97 GTS. I can see that. Mark are the white striped just stuck on like a sticker? Or do they shoot a clear over the stripe. To me. It seems like the vinyl stripe is just stuck on over the paint. Its kind of hard to tell. Do you know? Thanks.
