Anyone ever had caliper retaining pin come out ???
I noticed a grinding/bumping sound the other day on the rear pass rim and had no idea what it was. It sounded similar to a suspension issue, and it showed itself as I came around a turn with the pass side rear leaning in. I looked around and didn't see anything too evident, so I headed home for the day. I didn't notice the sound again until another decent size turn and it was bit louder this time. I was just about home and when I got home I took a look and saw that it was the cotter/retaining pin that holds the pads in the place on the caliper was broken in half and somewhat stuck in the caliper, still securing he pads a bit.
It seems to have popped out and been rubbing against the rim. I'm not sure how it happened, if it's just a weird freak incident or what. I'm now concerned about the ability to hold a new pin in place because the hole it goes in that's generally the size of the pin is a bit larger now due to the stress of the pin on it, eating a bit of it away.
So, my questions are, will this caliper be able to be used still or am I screwed ?
Also, am I able to buy a new retaining pin? It seems the dealerships have no idea what I'm talking about or can't seem to find it on their parts schematic to order one. One of them actually said I needed to buy a new caliper to get a new pin.
Does anyone have a part #, or an extra one laying around somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, I had a pin come out as well, it was bent and banging on the inner rim. This isn't necessarily a seating problem - the thick part can go bad over time. Mine had wiggled around and wallowed out the caliper hole, so I had to get a new caliper.

I've heard of a few coming out. I haven't had a problem. I seat mine with a punch. If it is still flush with the casting then it isn't seated deep enough.
