Hey, I am JD, I am currently shopping around for a gts, and presently own an 04 3blk vette vert. I came across a 2002 final edition gts, was wondering if you guys feel it is worth the extra dough they're asking for? I would prefer an ACR, any thoughts on that? Also any other suggestions or things to look out for would be appreciated.
IMO, the Final Editions are the pinnacle of the GTS. They may not have forged pistons, but they are definitely the most refined GEN II Viper ever produced.
ACR's are great if you plan on repeadetly tracking your car. The racing seatbelts, KONI adjustable shocks, foglight delete, AC and radio delete (depends on car, some have them), smooth tubes and filters, as well as the BBS wheels do give a nice performance edge over a standard GTS. But if you do not plan on tracking your car, there really isn't much of a point to spend the extra dough. If you will just be cruising around, you will further appreciate the fog lights as well as softer suspension that the non ACR's had. I live in a rural area that doesn't have street lights and if it wasn't for the foglights it would be mighty hard to see while driving at night. ACR's tend to hold their value a little more since they are quite rare, but then again it seems all FE's do seem to also hold their value quite well. You can't go wrong with either of them; both are incredible machines.
The Viper is a totally different experience then is the Z. Buy the Z if you want things like traction control, a quiet interior, or nice stereo. Buy the Viper if you want a street legal race car with a sparse interior, huge motor, and tons of track potential.
Personally, I would never buy a Corvette; they just don't do it for me. The Viper, in most respects, is simply a better and more exclusive car.
The ACR has nicer shocks, BBS wheels, harnesses, AC/radio/foglamp delete (you can get the "Comfort Group" added back in, smooth tubes/filters, and a limited production.
To pick one of these cars out, lets start with what colors you like and if it's a GTS or RT that you're really interested in. From there we can narrow down the year, model, and locate a car. Do you really like the Red/White FE paint?
Thanks for your insight. The final edition is asking for about 10grand more, but does have lower k. The acr I am looking at is a 2000, with 17000m. I do not plan to track it much, I like the rarity of the car, and to be honest, even if the differences are negligible, it's nice knowing it came from the factory with a slight edge. The last one I am looking at right now is a 2001 gts. It has less K, is a year newer, and is 5g's cheaper. The catch is it has been in an accident, hitting a pole. The dealer says everything has been repaired as new and has documented everything with pics. I asked about frame damage and he said something about a cross bar in the front attached to the frame had been bent, but has been repaired. The whole thing sounds Leary, although the car is priced appropriately because of it. What do you think?

Unfortunately I already own the vette, and I tend to agree with you on most of your points, which is why I am going to switch to a viper. The viper is way more exclusive, exotic, powerful, and better looking ride. For me, this completely outweighs creator comforts. I am not going to track the car, but it will not be a daily driver, more of a weekend car. I am not afraid of losing the comfort, maybe a little afraid of the power, but I think I can grow to harness it with a cautious approach.

2000's are kind of a snake in limbo. They no longer have forged pistons and ABS comes a year later. Still very nice cars nevertheless.
5 grand less isn't a deal at all for a wrecked car. Pay a little more money to avoid problems and get piece of mind.
I don't have a stock exhuast clip but if you own a Vette you probably will be somewhat disappointed with the exhaust note. The uneven firing order of the V10 doesn't really produce the sonorous rumble of a V8. The V8 in my Stingray seems to have a much deeper sound and roar to it. However, with aftermarket exhuast and headers, you can really make these cars sound like beasts.
