Just took my 01 RT/10 in. Turns out the ramps your tires have to touch are to high. If you drive your car up on them your front end will scrape the nose. They told me tires have to be on the ramps so the camera's linked to the system can see your back license plate. Fortunately the owner of the station had swivels on them and moved them up enough that I could get the car just far enough in the bay.
Next problem The OBDI Linkup to the system does not match the vipers perfectly. The end result is the emissions system cannot communicate with your onboard computer and this FAILS you. Now my perfectly flawless record viper will have a failed emissions on its carfax because STUPID CT emissions equipment wont work with the viper. The guy there was saying I must be one of the first vipers to go through the new system. That I find hard to believe but who knows.
I had to "challenge" the report and call into the central emissions program. Now I am having a emissions officer come down to the station tomorrow to re-run the test and try and link up the car to the system.
There are 3 camera's on your car at all times during the test and they are very strict about it.

I had my 98 go through last year. Find a place that is Viper friendly. My handicap controls stopped it from going up on the rollers.... Wink wink...
I tried to register it to my family's residence in florida, turns out florda insurance is a $1000 more than CT with the exact same coverage? (I cant figure out why?) And I am close to NYC in CT. ITs actually a savings to pay yearly property tax on the car and register and insure it here.
By the way, will be moving to florida pretty soon..
When did hitler become the head of environment in CT???
Here in ontario they implimented emissions testing in the mid 90's and are pasing it out by 2007 for some reason.... what a waste of fucking money, here if you have a car that won't pass emissions you just take your vin to someone you know who runs a shop and have some other "ghost" the test for you
Same problem in Ohio, solution, I registered the car as a Collector vehicle, no emission test needed with that classification. Also, no restrictions on the driving.
Sounds like someone has finally surpassed CA with the PITA factor for emissions testing. Having my '96 RT/10 done at a Test Only facility here in CA wasn't even as bad as your story.
Funny thing is my car just came (was purchased) from Cali where it passed fine (saw it on the carfax report).
I had to call in and challenge the test. They sent down some emissions sergeant who tried the same thing. He also could not get it to communicate with the car. They called into central HQ, did some kind of reset, changed some plug, added a 2nd plug to the cigerette lighter, and it still would not link up. The sergeant said he would try once more then go to the sniffer in the tailpipe test. Somehow ofter 2 hours and on the last try he linked it up and it passed fine. What pisses me off is that if I ever go to sell the car in the future and anyone runs a carfax on my vehicle it will show it failed emissions once in CT when in reality its their stupid equipment that did not work.
Well now I'm officially registered and on the road. These cars are something else. What a blast to drive...
