Over on the other board, another owner lost his power steering cap, it fell on his headers, fluid and the plastic cap started smoking, luckily he caught it and stopped a cap meltdown and fire.
Call Roe or Archer Racing and buy the kit for $30 if you have a Gen1 or 2. The replacement cap alone would have been more than it.
What other issue are you talking about other than the poor oiling to pistion #3. yea...that's what happen to my block. Poof gone....backing out of my driveway. Anything else we should know about.
mainly all the wasted money on 'warranty' items that could of been corrected at the factory, flimsy center consoles, side sills fading, gas cap and wheels laquar problems, weak hood springs....
What Craig left out is that he is the man who designed the fix - check it out on his website at http://www.hipoengineering.com/
I got one of these already from Craig and I seriously think everyone should get one. It takes 5 mins to install and literally makes it impossible for the cap to back off.
Thanks Mark...our first club event of the year in Michigan was last weekend and I had it on display. I had to send a shipment to Roe yesterday due to the orders they took.
i just got a viper and have been reading about the steering cap and sure enough, i go look at mine...and the cap was just sitting on top, looser than hell. thanks yes i ordered one.

But this time it was not some newb just doing it "because". The man has a legit reason. Big f'n differance there.
True.. i spose i will keep my bitching to a minimum
Had the same thing happen to me a year or so ago after some hard driving at an autocross.. cap had came loose and I had P/S fluid coming out.
I safety wired mine , but do something. They stay tight as hell for years , then come off in a matter of days and dump PS fluid on the hot headers and you have a fire.
After reading post about this a year ago I bought the cap fix kit. It sat in my garage for 3+ months. Then I started hearing a loud squeaking noise from my rear passenger side wheel. Took it to the dealership. Thought I might need a lub job. Turns out the power stearing cap came off and was stuck in the passenger back tire between the rim and the brake! Man, I got lucky no fluid came out!
Anyone know of a good source for a small fire extinguisher that could be trunk mounted?
None of this A piller ricer haushit, but with a car like this/ this issue I continually hear about , I'd rather spend the money and know it's there, God forbid.

For what it's worth, after doing a little reading, I've come across a report or two that warns against dry chemical extinguishers, instead recommending halon extinguishers. Apparently, the dry chemical stuff is corrosive and damaging to aluminum and magnesium, not to mention the fact of how the fine powder gets into everything, making cleanup a nightmare. This would be especially true if you had to discharge inside the car.
I've been looking for an under-the-hood mounted extinguisher that could be set off automatically or remote, but not really found anything yet.
Once again, YMMV with what I've mentioned above, but I think it's worth considering when looking for an extinguisher, should you choose to do so.
