I thought that when someone post a car in the classifieds it automatically post a thread here. No fault to jasonhaynie, even though he works at Palmer dodge. Look at his post count, big fat "0".
I have the Classifieds setup to post in here whenever someone lists a new Viper For Sale. He's not posting it himself and I've sent a note suggesting he consider supporter status.
We knew it was set up to automatically post when something is listed, but I think the gripe (petty as it is) is that anybody can go suck down bandwidth and unintentionally clutter the Viper Discussions with For Sale posts - and never contribute a damn thing to the site itself. I would think that you would want to get something for this service, if not the occasional post then at least some fees. Your buddies over at the mOrg get $35 a throw from non-VCA members if I remember correctly.
I think the point is that this is not only a free ride, but also clutters up the forums with what basically amounts to e-commerce spam. Unintentional or not, Viper-related or not.
Chris has a point but... is this place so dynamic that occasional classified posts should be considered clutter? Perhaps they should be welcome.
Wouldnt users prefer first crack at available cars? Handled properly (see the Corvette forum and the benefits offered via "supporting dealers"), this site could be the first place both buyers and sellers turn to when looking to trade a Viper rather then stand in line with everyone else via Ebay, auto trader, etc...
I view these posts positively. They are on-topic and would be advantageous to any user in the market to buy or sell. It's just another thread, appropriately on-topic as "Wheelwax" and "Thanx to Sean Roe".

Nobody would care but it's a dealer who hasn't ponied up any $$ to effectively advertise on the site..

I see that and I do not necessarily disagree but... is this site intended for the benefit of its users (the Viper community) or is it a business?
If it's a business then yes... absolutely go nuts when these guys post and in fact only allow paid classified advertising. Then you should prob charge users as well, for certain levels of access - reviews, recommendations, etc..
If it isn't... do what MP did which is to remind these posters this place is user supported, expect some type of eventual donation but do not limit or discourage classified ads. If I am in the market for a Viper, I dont care whether it is a dealer or private owner posting. I just want first crack at what is available.
Guys, I am sorry if I offended anyone by posting here, I am new to all of this, other than being a fan of the Viper for as long as there has been a Viper to be a fan of. I have made a donation, small as of now. I am not "the dealer", I am a new salesperson at "the dealer". I am doing this on my own, to get exposure on the cars, and hopefully hook someone up with the car they want. As I develop some business, I will contribute more to the site, but funds are tight right now. I didn't know that the ads were posted here in the forums, nor did I realize that posting the ads would be taken this way. If the populace wishes that I stop posting, I will. If there are any other transgressions that I am guilty of, please let me know.
I want people to feel they are getting a value for their donation and do not mind if someone posts some ads before making one. If the ads generate some response and they want to continue advertising on the site then I would encourage them to become a sponsor. If they get no response and the site didn't help them at all, then I have no expectations of being paid.
The day may come where we treat this site more as a business, but for now I think the ads themselves are good for the site. I'm glad to see people using the Classifieds section and the more cars we have listed, the better. If we continually have a nice selection of cars, then people will frequent that section more to see whats out there.
