GTS Ground Clearance

I'm looking to get a 97-98 GTS but I'm thinking I might have problems with my driveway. Just how bad is the ground clearance for those of you with driveways that are somewhat steep.

thanks

Hard to say without seeing your driveway. Mine sucks...I cannot pull in straight (cheap ass area where I live!!)...but I can take most at an angle (like everyone else) and I'm good. Mine is lowered with Eibachs too. Gotta pic of your driveway? I have only met ONE driveway I refused to attempt....well...I mean attempt a second time! Not much damage...mostly my pride!

Here's a pic to get an idea of the angle from the street to the driveway.

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

If I lived there, I'd be tempted to give it a try. A shot from down the sidewalk, looking up, would tell more about that first lip...but it looks like if you hit it with at least a 45 degree angle (maybe a bit more??) you would be OK. My problem is that sometimes someone parks on both sides of my driveway...and I can get the right angle. I solved that by parking my son's car there....forever!

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

I think you could get it if you walked it; get a fascia guard (I think Roe sells 'em), be careful and then I don't think you'd have to worry.

On another note: Tony, your car looks fucking awesome! Love the wing! I'm suprised the windbreakers let you out in these parts .

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

Nobody ever parks near my driveway so that's not really a concern. I've currently got an '02 Mustang that I drive in at an angle to keep from scraping. But's it's got more clearance than a Viper so it's not too bad getting it in. I'm anxious to start my search for a GTS but I'd sure be ticked if I bought one, got it home and find out I can't get up the driveway. But like you said if I come in at a really steep angle it could probably be done. Anyone else out there have an opinion on if this is doable? I've also heard that moving up to 19" rims can give another 1/2 inch of clearance.

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

Clint....thanks! I am still trying to get it cleaned up to POSER standards...but it looks awesome so far. That darn wing would not have been possible if it wasn't for JPH himself, Larry Macedo (tech support), and Mark Kelly. Yeah, I have my windbreaker in the cleaners...so I figured I could cut loose a bit! LOL!!

Colorado....if nobody is ever near your drive, and you can approach it almost parallel, I would think you should be OK.

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

I have/had to back in at an angle with the 96 GTS and now with the 99 GTS. The 01 ACR was a 4x4 compared to the others and could go up front first at an angle.

When in doubt, throw a 2x12 at the bottom of the curb. This is actually how I got my car out of Toby's driveway.LOL

If you put 19's on your car, then you will have to lower or it will look like an off road vehicle. So if you gained 1/2 by going w/ 19's, you would probably end up - 1/2 inch in the end. My driveway is pretty steep, I scrapped a few times in the beginning, but I have now mastered entry/exit. The chin guard suggestion is a good one.

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

Excellent question. When I was searching for new digs, one priority was "can the Viper make it onto the driveway." You should have no problems if you approached at a severe angle, that said I would definitely go with Simms recommendation. Invest in a piece of wood, then go out and get yourself a Viper

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

Wood works great. just leave it there and get a second piece as a spare in case someone steals it.

Re: GTS Ground Clearance

The wood is a good idea. I'd probably have to bring it out and put it away each time since I doubt my neigbors would be too happy about it. But it's a nice option in case I can't get in using a severe angle. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
