?: Installing smooth tubes and K&N filters...
This is probably a dumb question but I just order Smooth Tubes and am going to purchase the K&N air filters for my 2002 GTS and I just wanted to know if anyone on here has first hand knowledge of how to install them.
Also, I was told the K&N filters don't fit properly... any truth to this?
Thanks,
Travis

Never seen a problem yet. The install is just about as easy as replacing the air filters alone. Just replace the corrogated sections of hose with the smooth and filter for filter.

Don't forget to replace the rotator splint.

I'm sorry, I completely forgot about that and you need about six inches of shore line to hold it in place and remember to re-calibrate the flapastat. And if you have a hard time getting the tubes to slide onto the throttle bodies, use a little compass water.

It's pretty involved I would let the dealer handle it. Good thing install is cheap at about $250 a side.

I knew you guys would miss direct this newbie.
Don't listen to them Travis. But the increase in air efficiency will require the appropriate muffler bearings to handle it.

May I suggest the Vipair instead. More HP but requires you to pull the motor first.

That's a warranty repair, isn't it?

What you heard about the K/N's not fitting is "somewhat" correct. The filter is the same as OEM but the sidewall doesn't compress as much as the OEM. Therefore it puts more strain on the airbox clips and sometimes they pop off.
Fix? Remove the clips (they just snap in). Do this in warm weather, no need to break the plastic on your airbox. Place on cement, cover with rag and hit lightly with hammer. Do not flatten. This will lenghten them just a tad which will be enough to keep them on.
