Why is the stock clutch no longer desirable? Too much power?

Stock may be ok. But for the price I may want to upgrade. I'm a Dodge dealer and the stock stuff is more than the aftermarket performance parts. Have you had any experiences with other clutch kits ?

I use the OEM Luk. It's $200. Or often way less.

Free shipping too. If you are a dealer, you know never to buy stuff from yourself because you mark everything up 3X what is normal. Check Amazon

Ok....I understand that luk is $200 and is the BEST DEAL, but if money wasn't an object, what other clutch kits would be good. I am looking at South Bend and SPEC. I just don't want the clutch chatter on idle.

If your clutch is chattering at idle you have other problems besides brand of clutch. Burned or warped flywheel. Weak slave. Burned pressure plate.

If you want to blow $600+ get the Spec 3+. I like that or the Spec 3. But for anything with less than 650 HP, stock is fine.

If by "chatter" you mean the rattle noise you hear when car is in neutral, then you're not going to get rid of it changing the clutch. That is a characteristic of the T56.

I agree with the others. Unless you are putting out a lot more power than stock I see little advantage to a different clutch but I do see disadvantages to them.

I'm surprised Dave didn't say this so, I'll steal it from him. In this case, I don't see that as an "upgrade" since the stock unit is more than capable of the job and is proven for it's application.

My clutch is not chattering. I hear that the aftermarket performance clutches chatter. I want to stay away from that obviously. ok, well i will do more research. So far, the South Bend 2 seems to fit the bill. Claims no chatter and at dealer cost of $565 CDN...it's not bad, but I want to research luk clutch kits. I see they are made in Mexico.

Putting on a clutch that can handle more power than the stock clutch would actually be an upgrade. Although if the car doesn't need that improvement then one could argue against it. I obviously choose not to.

My main beef with calling every fucking thing you do to your car an upgrade is that quite often what you're doing is a downgrade. Even if the part is an upgrade from OEM, many times the overkill results in reduced performance. I don't think that applies here.

LuK makes the OEM clutch. Buying it through the dealer will net you the same part, but in a MoPar box. Unless you are experiencing slippage I do not see how going to a stronger clutch would benefit you in any way.

it will hold a lot more than 650 unless you are on a track maybe, but for street use or highway runs in mexico, LUK is fine for much more than 650

You cannot beat the stock clutch package for its price & robustness up to around 650 hp. In other words, unless you have a super/turbocharger, or serious all-motor work (heads/cam/compression increase), don't waste your money on aftermarket clutches.
