59K for a 6K 99 ACR. not worth it IMO but im sure some sucker will pay it
milage means nothing to me. hell, the viper isnt even broke in til about 30K. as long as routine maintenance was done properly who gives a fuck what mileage is, unless youre a collector
im looking for a 99 acr as well, to be my TT project, silver color (so i can add black stripes) and its tough right now. keep patience and youll find a better deal than 59K.

Re: How desirable is a Viper as a showroom centerpeice?
As a Dealer I also think the price is a little high, but like Big Carrot the 99 or early 2000 are very desirable ACRs. Surprisingly the Konis ( noisy shocks )
are deemed better for the track than the later models - though this has alot to do with better spring rates on the earlier models. That said, I too, would still want an ABS car over a non-ABS car, which is personal preference and has nothing to do with the price of tea in China. So , enough ramblin, if the car is straight, and you check it over thoroughly, go with a lower price and see what flies. Currently 99s are bringing good money based on the perception that the forged pistons are better if one wants to Supercharge/Turbocharge the motor. Since, few in reality, do this, don't let it cloud the issue. I would ask them to put the car on a rack so you could look under it, as I am not a fan of Showroom cars, as they invariably get damaged ( customers can't keep their hands off them ,many Dealers drag dirty dust cloths over them, and the intrepid cleaning crew loves to bang the Orecks under the side sills ). Best of luck and getting a Snake is guaranteed to make you happy, you will lose weight, stop losing your hair, and women will find you irresistable. PS - You will also find the time to pitch all the crap you have been storing in your garage these last 5 years, to make more room for your new baby!!

I have to disagree! That sales manager probably got promoted to that position because he was really good at selling cars. He knows how to manipulate you better than the sales guy! lol I've had people do that, and the mgr. tries to make a whopper of a deal just to show his minions how it's done! You may leave with a smile on your face, but you probably didn't get that great of a deal.
I only deal with managers because I hate sitting in the office during the "I have to check with my manager" bullshit. If a dealer has a car I'm interested in I go straight to the manager, make my offer, and if we can't agree on a price I leave my number. I hate spending 2 hours at a dealership just to hear that they are as low as they can go, but they'll throw in a free paint guard and some floor mats.
It usually helps to be driving an expensive car when you go also(many dealers where I live won't give you the time of day if you're looking at a Viper but you pulled up in a cavalier. Sad, but true).
Of course, I said fuck it and got my dealer license just to avoid these situations.

yep...that's why I bought my car off the net. The dealer felt dumb after I ploped down 60k in cash and told him to kiss my ass then took my money and left. I hate that they do that. Ok I'm 25...so fucking what. If I got the cash don't haggle me about my job. I got to the point I would told them I'm a hitman. They stoped buggin me after that.
Re: How desirable is a Viper as a showroom centerpeice?
I like to collect shit, but I want to tool in my viper... I\'m torn.
I've got a few possibly dumb questions about the 99 vipers.
I had thought I had done well with my research, but it seemed I missed some stuff. I knew the '99s had different shocks than the 2000 and laters, but I didn't know they were noisy? How can a shock be noisy... and how can it be noisy enough in a viper that you can hear it over the engine and tire roar?
'00 and up had the dynamic suspension, what did the '99 and below have? I don't know how much dynamic suspension would matter to me since I have no skills on the circuit (some day though... some day...) but it's a difference I didn't know, so I should hit google after I find out what the '99s had.
Everyone says that you should make sure all the recalls have been done to the viper before you buy it, is there any official chrysler/dodge website with all the recalls for each year? Or do I have to cruise into my local dodge dealer and hope they're willing to do research on a car that they're not selling, and probably won't be servicing.
Lastly,

Anyone have any suggestions for gaining validity in the eyes of the ever observant sales man? I'm 24, my current dail driver's a Ford Focus, and I can't plop down the full price of the car in cash (only paying for 40k up front, getting a car loan for the rest) I could cruise up in the '48 Windsor, but that's only a 4 thousand dollar car (soon to be a $9,000 car... with $18,000 worth of resto work in it :P ) while the average sales man probably wouldn't know that it's worth little, and only see that it's old and shiney, I don't want that much highway driving in the Windsor. See, while the viper is local, local in New England, is pretty much within 600 miles, the viper I found is in PA about 588.58 miles away, and 600 miles each way on a car that tops out at 75 miles an hour vibrating and shaking the whole time seems like a last resort type of deal.
I could just purchase on-line, but I don't want to buy sight unseen, and Hell, I want to at least sit in, if not drive, Any viper before I buy one.
