Porting heads, stroker kits and forced induction

How important is it to have a set of ported heads when you use a stroker kit or some kind of forced induction....or even stroker w/supercharger/turbo? I know it may depend on what your goals are as far as power so let's say.....750rwhp.

I know you should always have just a mild P&P just to take out the high spots in the bowl and smooth the air flow in/out of the heads. But with the huge ci of this engine...does it really need it to make that kind of power.

What about cams. Do you really need a lumpy cam?

Both Heffner and Underground Racing are making that kinda of power on a stock motor (maybe just rocker arms). '00 and newer will need a piston swap for that amount of boost.

To make 750rwhp on boost you really can use a stock engine - plenty of tuners do that.

I recommend blueprinting all performance engine upgrades - but it adds significant cost and if power is all you want - you just need to get a good boost package from any of the reputable tuners that make cars with that power level.

Head porting always helps but it is not as important on boost as it is without boost.... that is until your power requirements are significantly higher. More important is to ensure there aren't any "hot spots" on the heads that can cause detonation and that the engine management adequately adjusts for the compression and boost combo for the octane you run.

Do not boost cast pistons - it is always a bad idea when the top ring land is high.

Otherwise you are in good shape - just have someones package fitted and you are good to go! Make sure price includes fuel system etc, and you'll want upgraded half shafts, might as well do the clutch too as the stock ones are a crap shoot from that power level on. good luck!
