Almost Worn out BFGs... good or bad for the track?
My BFG's are about down to the tread wear marks. I only use them for drag racing, though... Does it matter how much tread is left if all I'm doing is drag racing?
Or do I want to get a fresh set for the upcoming races?

It has been my experience that they get better all the way down until the cords show. Smooth is fast.

I'm not saying drive on the cords, I'm saying they get better until the cords begin to show. Never drive on tires showing cords.

Joe,
Mine have always hooked harder as the tread design starts to disappear. Don't let it get to the cords, but the compound is the same all the way through...Mine are just at the point of tread design and I cut a best of 1.52 and a worst of 1.54 at Columbus. Your call...just play it safe.
Later,
Joe

Thanks guys! They aren't nearly down to the cords yet... Just on the edge of hitting the tread-wear marks. I'll use them in LA and see how they do.
Thanks!
JD

If they are at the wear bar don't drive in the rain. You will hydroplane.

I hydroplane w/ these in the rain no matter what!
I drive these _only_ at the track...
Fun!
So either a) they are going to hook like mad or b) they are going to break.
I hope for a !

Screw it... new rubber going on. anyone want the old ones? If so, I'll bring them. Otherwise, I'll trash them.

Bring'em JD, somebody may get some use out of them. If we meet up, you can throw them in the back of the truck.

Joe,
Don't toss them...I will take them off of your hands. Maybe somebody will need them in the finals or something....I wonder who ?
See ya there,
Joe
