Hi everyone, am new to Viper Alley and the viper community. I currently drive a Z06 and a 72 stingray, have always owned vettes but am passionately looking into a viper. I have gotten addicted to high speed events and find myself wanting more "raw" pwr and have become SLIGHTLY obsessed with the vipers.
Any advice, suggestions are greatly appreciated.
The viper will be car #4, used mostly for DE events and wknd WOT driving.
I prefer the GTS body style and definitely don't want a vert since I want take it to the track. I am here to learn as much as I can before finding my viper, so excuse my ignorance! I have owned 6 vettes and have never thought I would consider another sports car until I saw the viper! I am on a mission now
Yes I am a "chick" , my '72 stingray has a 350 sm block in it, bored over 30, LT1 cam
they don't know I am "looking", I am going to TRY to keep both vettes and swing the viper but one of them MAY have to go-and it will probably be the Z06
Get a 99 ACR. IMO its the best, but I'm biased. A good track alignment and ACR shock settings and you'll never go back to the Z. You will miss its brakes though, but upgrade the 99 with the StopTech kit and that will be the end of that.
hey thanks Mark-was just reading under the track section, sounds like the stoptech kit is popular with the vipers. I am running Hawk blue's on the Z06, guess they aren't used with vipers?
yeh am now learning the ACR is the "track ready" viper right?

Hawk blues are a great pad, but rough on rotors. You'll also notice the Viper's weight compared to the Z06 (the power makes up for it, but you will notice it in braking). There are a few pads which most people run - the big consensus lately is on Performance Friction. Feel free to try several and report back though, we can always use more datapoints.
The ACR comes with 2-way adjustable shocks (bounce/rebound). The particular type of shock depends on the year, as does the spring rates (but all ACRs are stiffer). The shocks also make the ACR rideheight adjustable up to 1", which is very good for getting the COG lower, getting the alignment perfect, and the corner weight set.
The ACR has some other things too, like lightweight 1-piece BBS wheels, no fog lamps, different oil pressure regulator, etc. All the other changes are minor and basically you want it for the shocks/wheels. In the used market, the ACR package is often found for little difference over a stock GTS.
The ACR has 5-points already as well, but they're not the greatest IMO (at least all the anchor points are already there for you to add your own).
If it were me, I'd get a 99 ACR and add the stoptech 4 wheel kit. The 99 has Koni 2812 shocks btw if you're interested.

When I bought my Viper I had a 1969 L71 (427/435) roadster, it was an NCRS Top Flight car and just came off a 3 year body off resto. I'd go out to the garage the first 6 months of Viper ownership to decide which car to bomb around in and always choose the Viper.
Vipers '99 and before have forged pistons which lend well to SC or NOS, '00 and up are cast pistons but '01 and up has ABS. Stoptech is the best brake system, most of us including myself get the 4 wheel big brake system. I did alot of road racing in my Viper and modified it as such, feel free to ask for any recommendations. If you really wanna wild ride on this board go to "Anything Goes"
Mark-thanks for the info on the ACR, now I understand the difference. Wow, imagine that-a manufacture actually puts shocks and harness set up on a car, hahaa! that's wild, now I know I want a viper! had to add all that to the Z06!
SoCal-too bad you still didn't have that big block vette, it's worth a LOT now
ok gonna check out anything goes-should I have a rain coat on?
