Re: Powdercoating my calipers this winter.....

Question for those who road race

How does painting the caliper affect heat dissipation?

I would think that leaving them "raw" would be a better choice.

Then just do what I did, VHT High Temp Engine paint. :thumb:

Simple to do, and has not come off yet in over 3 years.

Re: Powdercoating my calipers this winter.....

city, here is what my buddy wrote me today about it....

Quote:
http://www.tigerdrylac.com/prodsvc_charts.html

pick anything from the 4 listed on that page. Click "color preview" ( it's a
good start anyways. If nothing there suits your fancy, lemme know what
shade/tone/hue yer looking for and I'll give you bunches more to choose
from) The colors listed there are just a wee bit off. They have a FANTASTIC
candy red that I just love. Then again.... on your car we could go with
mirror black and the letters shaved down to have that whole "name floating
in the wheel" thing going on. It's all up to you, bud.

I can base coat it with silver and top coat with a translucent red to have a
nice deep piece of hard candy look to it. I can do a wet looking blood red
( picture a stripper's nailpolish.....yeah, that's the one. "come fuck me
red". heh....) or I can go totally in another direction and just have a red
with a clear/metallic additive on top so that it catches the eye at just the
right moment when light hits it. Chameleon silver/red as well. Think about
it. Once powder gets on there it has to be burnt off or chemically stripped,
this is why I don't want to do it twice, lol. Hell..... even put up a
consensus online and see what the group says. If you can see a color, I can
pretty much duplicate it. I don't care if it's on another car, or if you
have a picture of a lady friend who has some awesome shoes or nails ( please
lord....let it be from one of those pictures, lmfao).
im gonna do some homework and find out the exact color of red thats on the new SRT and go from there i think. bu I like the idea of hard candy look......

he still wont give me a price yet, he wants to hear what i want done first. but he is a honest guy and does amazing work with powders. I know the price will be right so im NOT worried.

If you actually road-race, VHT caliper paint won't last long. I bought the highest temp-rated VHT (1200 I think) and did my AP 6-pistons that way, and they went from yellow to a lovely chestnut brown after only two Sebring events.

Once I finally get into the new house (where I can leave the car on jack-stands for awhile and not be in anybody's way... not much room in the rental house), I'm going to send them off and get them done with this 2000-degree stuff I saw this weekend.

It's a cool-looking deep, dark red that actually looks like it has a layer of clearcoat over the top. I don't know what the stuff is called, but a local shop does it, and I saw a car down at Roe Racing done that way. Apparently holds up to heat very well. It looks more like the paint finish you'd see on the body of a car than the relatively dull stuff you see on calipers.

:atu: Anthony - the cailpers look awesome. A very nice match to your car's paint scheme! How did you get the silver letters? Decals? Hand painted? Did you have this done locally in H-town?
