Hello, pretty new to Vipers so I know I'll come off looking arrogant and un-informed. I just bought a 1997 Blue GTS and was wondering if it had traction control, and if so how to disable it?
I tried a search but didn't find anything too helpful. Thanks.
Ok so there is no trac control? No slip control? The dealer said it had ABS, but I know that it doesn't. I didn't get an owners manual and haven't really had a lot of time to read up on it since I've been studying a lot. I just noticed it bogs down during burn out and figured it has Trac Cont which a couple of my friends suggested. PS my last car was an AWD STi so I'm not completely use to the RWD yet.
no slip control. no traction control. no abs. and please remember, most viper wrecks happen in the first 3 months of ownership. make sure its pointed straight before u mash the pedal.
You have 3.07 gears, which are very long. (0 - 56 or so MPH). You will bog a bit in first if you don't slip the clutch just right.
Rev engine to 3,000 RPM, ease the clutch out/control wheel spin gas, take off like a rocket.
Remember, a complete utter moron can drive a STI to 95% the first day (Not a rip, and not a bad thing, but the truth). The Viper takes a long time to get used to and extract 90+% out of.... So enjoy the ride and learn as you go....
For cheap thrills until you get the hang of the launch, cruise at 30 MPH in first gear and slam the throttle. Don't use the clutch at all.... Just make sure you know how to control a RW drive car going sideways before trying. I suggest an empty lot. And of course, NEVER to this going around a corner. When coming out of a corner, squeeze the throttle, don't slam it. In the STI, you could probably get away with doing this since it isn't a torque monster and the AWD can save you.
Thanks guys. I might be a little slow on the uptake (it's a completely differen't greeting than any other forum I've been on). Sorry bout the misunderstanding.
I've been pretty easy on it thus far since I realize it's a whole differen't story compared to an AWD STi. No need to wreck it. It rains here constantly too.
Man!
I don't know about 6 months, I had my Viper for a year now and that car still scare the shit out of me. I guess it is because I live in HI and once I step on the gas...I am at the end of the freeway... :thumb: Goes to think my car will be blown in a week or so...
BTW...welcome to the real men's club...none of this Subaru stuff...I see so many of those things around it gets old. They are pretty quick cars, but once I hit 2nd...its over...
Agree..make sure you point straight foward when you gas...
Ok I'll keep that in mind then. So where's the best place to get stupid questions answered then?
Welcome! You've gotten some good answers now, but I suggest you click on Main Index and ask your question in "Anything Goes." Those guys are just a bunch of sweethearts and will take care of you. It helps to post pix of your previous ride!
J/K. Might want to approach that place with caution!
Yeah, talk about a torque monster. I was driving in first, and coming out of an intersection i changed lanes as i stepped on the gas. I ended up facing the wrong direction on the road. Be careful, even when changing lanes. Vipers are the most unforgiving cars on the road!!!!
