stroke or rebuild it stock?

Whats an average price to rebuild a 99 Viper motor?? I am considering using nitrous, but if I was to break a piston or rod or whatever...what would it cost to have it rebuild at the machine shop if the block and main componets were still good???

Also, does it cost that much more to stroke the motor since the motor is all apart if you are not going to go that much bigger?

Thanks

There is slightly more labor to pull the crank and then there is just the machine shop cost to off-set grind your stock crank for a 510 stroker.

Re: stroke or rebuild it stock?

What about a 542(is that right?) I remember something about a new crank, but I can't think what it cost. IF you do build a stroker, what are all the parts you will need. For exsample here would be my "wish list"

542 stroker kit, Assume it comes with pistions, rods, pushrods, oilpump, waterpump, seals, ect, everything you need for the short block.
p&p heads
valves (what size?)
cam (again what would be good for a stroker)

To support all that hp and tq, what else would have to be upgraded.

Clutch, pressure plate, drive shaft(?), half shafts, rear end and tranny (will it hold that power without the big boom).

What would you be looking at as far as price if you do all the tear down and assembly yourself? I'm sure it'll be $15,000 in parts alone.

Has anyone thought about using a GENIII engine as "upgrade" for the GEN I/II vipers? Because it's 505cid already. Could that be a better choice then stroking a 488cid?

Re: stroke or rebuild it stock?

I'll answer some questions:

A new 542 stroker crank will run $4000-4500.

In addition to what you mentioned you would need the other basics: new air intake system, 1.7 roller rockers, full exhaust. The biggest thing your missing is an upgraded fuel system w/return.

On the driveline - most stock parts will hold. Upgraded 1/2 shafts are a must.

The Gen III intake is a big restriction. For now a built Gen II will out perform a similarly built Gen III.

Re: stroke or rebuild it stock?

Is the intake that bad on the Gen III's? So the only reason the gen 3 makes more power then a gen II is because of the displacement increase...is that what you mean?

Yea some power can be attributed obviously to the increased displacement. I think most power comes from the better flowing Gen III heads.
