in the market for a gts have a few questions
I'm getting ready to sell my 99 Lighting, for a gts viper. I'm on a budget so I would like to stay under 60k . Are there any specific years I should avoid? I have been reading some post about overheating?
any feedback would be great, great site too.

At a budget of 60k, you can basically get about any year you want. If you want to mod your car I would stay with 1996-1998 as they have forget pistons. I've seen quite a few motors with broken pistons and rings utilizing DIY supercharger kits.
As your years progress generally , you get a few "comfort" upgrades.. Rear latch, adjustable side mirrors from inside, ABS (2000 and up? I think)
At 50k you should have about 5k to 10k left over !

with 60K you could get a good GTS and have at least 10K left for mods

If you are going with forced induction, get a 99. If you aren't, then get a '02.

You might look at Ego Racer's car (there is a post by him active right now). I would seriously look at that car if I could right now.

I would stay away from the 2000 model year. Cast pistons and no ABS, worst of both worlds.

Unless you want steel grey paint--which was the best color EVER.

2000-02 had cast pistons.
2001-02 had ABS.
