GTS-R Head vs. Stock Head Cooling Capacity

Several weeks ago, I posted the stock flow characteristics for a set of GTS-R heads.

GTS-R vs. Stock Head Flow

or

GTS-R vs. Stock Head Flow

And as the previous post showed that the heads do not exhibit extraordinary low lift flow numbers, for some street applications, these heads might just be ideal because of the extra water passages which help the head cool the engine much better than the stock head.

The first photo shows the stock head (exhaust side). The water jacket appears as a bulge around the spark plug well.

The second photo shows the same angle of the GTS-R head. Notice how the head casting is bulged out around the entire exhaust port. This is all the extra water capacity these heads have. For some high horsepower engines, these heads might be a good investment in helping keep the engine/head cool and for high boost applications, the extra cooling would help prevent detonation.
