now thats the way the srt10 is supposed to shift!!!!

Last year when i drove the srt10 for the first time i thought the shift knob REALLY needed to sit lower. so i made up a batch of knobs and ran into a problem.

the problem was that the knob really could not go down as far as what you would want due to the tall conical shifter ring bezel thingie . i kept banging my pinky on the bezel when going into 1st. so i made the knobs a bit taller for this reason. this has gnawed on me for a year and never really knew what i could do about it.

until now...

i decided to make my own shifter bezel out of billet and make it VERY low profile to enable the kbo to sit lower and give more clearance. also it needed a more machined hard edge look to it to compliment my other stuff.

and lastly i REALLY wanted to do something the SRT10 has benn begging for!!!!

GO CHROME BABY !!!!!!!!!

the price of the a/c knobs , cupholder and radio knob is the same for pearl bright and chrome and the fully machined shifter bezel is going to run between 60-70 dollars in chrome or pearl bright. i am thinking that there will be a market for the shifter in the same finish as stock since it does look better and does offer the better clearance so i will offer it in both finishes too .

i should have some in stock in about 2-3 weeks. you can call and preorder everything in chrome if you like. 706-793-1770

Nice work, looks really clean. :thumb: Is this the same shifter knob you unvailed a couple weeks ago, for the GEN 1-2 (just different logo)?

Yes it is . good eye

the current knobs i make for the srt10 are about 3/4 taller due to the stock shifter ring problem. still a HUGE difference over stock but with this new bezel you can actually use the gen 1/2 knob which makes the shifts really short.

Out of curiousity, what's the advantage of a shorter shifter? I understand it makes a shorter throw, but people seem to insinuate that makes shifting faster. I would think that the longer shifter would create more leverage for more "sure" shifting when moving between different gears.

in some cases this theory has merit but here are some points to ponder...

the higher the knob the less ACCURATE you are shifting due to the vagueness of the shift gates. the lower you grab the knob the better feel you have WHERE the gears are. this ultimately makes you faster.

a longer shifter does create more leverage BUT it does so by increasing the ARC length of the throw by alot. this would be an issue if the viper shifter were a real bear to shift but most people have no problem shifting with a shorter knob so leverage really does not become the main factor the throw does.

here is an anoalogy that may explain it better... the viper v10 has monstrous torque. therfor it does not need 8,000 rpms to run to redline for its performance even though a higher revving engine has more LEVERAGE to get the car rolling with less torque. thats why you never see vtec hondas with a 5500 rpm redline. they have no balls so they need the broader rev band to gain torque and hp up top. the viper does not need this and therefor the rpm band does not need to be like a motorcycle.

same goes with the shifts. and you are correct that dodge makes the STOCK knob so tall because it gives more leverage but thats because dodge has to cater to a BROAD customer base. and i am sure there are some people who have a hard time shifting with even the stock knob so they would not like a shorter knob.
