Recently I was returning home from a long trip and had been running on empty for some time. I went to fill up the tank, and ended up putting in 17.955 gallons!
I had to fill it completely once as i wasn't paying attention to the gas gauge and having way too much fun. Ran it out. I had to call for help as I would not leave the car. On an up note, everyone driving by had a hay-day yelling crap at me.

You got pretty lucky there. Almost out of gas completely. I only run with a half tank anyways.....I don't know if many of my cars see much above a half tank in their lifetime. It makes for more trips to the gas station, but more people get to gawk at it I guess.
One time at band camp. I went out to eat at Carabas. Had a ton of bread. I swear my car was hardly touching the ground.. Fucking melted my seat...

The issue is: when the dang gauge reads below "E" the tank still has about 4 gallons in it. It really ticks me off that the auto manufacturers won't mark a gauge correctly.
