I have seen some recent statements about people worried about installing a S/C themselves, and worried about the Roe Kit. I guess I fail to see why so much importance is put on sending this to a tuner. Sure for getting everything fine tuned for optimum performance OK I understand this, but to get it close what is the concern? If you take your time, have a set of service manuals, and are familiar with the basic mechanics of working on a car what is the mystery of installing the Kit especially if it comes with a great set of instructions and all the install pieces you need. There are also other great tuning tools out there like the Innovate Motorsports LM-1 A/F meter to let you test the car yourself.
because I'd rather pay someone 600 bucks to do it who will fix it if something goes wrong... Plus, chances are a tuner has installed more sc's that most people. With experience comes a price. If you install 10 SC's and say the tenth one is harder than the 1st, something is wrong.
why do people pay others to paint their houses? Most people are capable of doing so themselves.....
Most tuners have free installation if you buy it from them. But I do see your point. I think that the kits that they were talking abuot are the Paxton kits that were made for 00-02 and the guys who had the problems with their cars both had 98s. I am guessing that is the problem. They installed something themselves that should have not been on the car.
king, yeah true, if you take it roe for example, he does do it free, but some tuners buy roe products and charge you for it....I was just giving a figure i heard about.
The ROE was designed to be a DIY kit and work well with a general setup for many conditions. The VEC2 has really helped to fine tune these systems along with a couple of tuners who have alot of experience dealing with the ROE.
DLM/Heffner are dealing with alot more power that requires some fine tuning and experience to get optimum performance. No way to compare the 2 kits.
The Paxton in base form can be installed easily, but once the boost is turned up you better know what you are doing or you fun will be short lived.

I think SuperSquirrel said it best. To spend less than 10% of the purchase price for the work and an effective guarantee is simply a bargain. That's no to suggest that you can't DIY...but it's tough for many of us (not all) not to take easy path.
City Snake, Supersquirrel, you are correct the install price is pretty reasonable. A friend of mine summed it up when he stated:
"Not everyone enjoys or wants to mess with this type of install, not everyone likes to tear shit apart like you do, they just want to jump in and go..."
If/when I supercharge my GTS it will be with a DIY kit. Not because it is cheaper but because it would be tons of fun. I love working on cars! I must be a bit weird because I even look forwared to changing the oil! I do a lot of work on and around our house for the same reason. I figure that even if it costs me as much as it would to pay someone to do it, it is worth it if I end up with some cool tools after it is over!

I agree, But I would no longer have time to do it myself.
Plus - your time is money... Depending on if you like doing those long mods to a car that will have tremendous horsepower - everything must be perfect... And that is what I did - let the pros do it because they have done it before...
Not that it wouldn't be a fun project - but I would get half way through it and start creating new swear words... And frankly - my heart is in much better shape now that Archer dealt with the charger...
My biggest concern was that I can do a lot of mods - not worried about that - but when you start talking about messing with the engine like that - no thanks... If I would have done it - there would always be that voice in my head wondering what that extra bolt was for... [img]/images/graemlins/supergrin.gif[/img] Plus - just too busy to devote that much time to installing...
For me, time is more valuable than money. Don't ever want to spend time doing something I don't like. I like working on cars too much to let someone else do it (as long as I know what i'm doing!). Like it much more than golf!
