Just wanted to let you know that Don and I are making alot of progress and looking forward to having something in place later this month for the new ViperRag online-magazine.
I know Cliff has been working on content and one thing I would like to throw out is that we will really need on-the-scene reporters covering events and posting articles with photos. I hope that we can convince some of the people who went to the V10 Nats to post, but for future events would be good if we could coordinate these.
In fact, maybe we could even work up some kind of credentials so people covering the event could get some inside scoops...?
This is an exciting project and I think will be a load of fun for everyone.
Wife is a graphic artist, specializing in advertising. National to local ad campains. If she can help, lemme know. She moves like a million miles an hour in photoshop, I shit you not. She worked for several printing shops too.
I can volonteer to the be bay area photographer. There is a car show next week that i'm planning to go to. Credentials would be great so you can get closer to the cars for photography. Any ideas on how to get that?
Actually, no. But I'll look into it. I was thinking we'd use our connections in the Viper area to try and fanagle access, but maybe we can figure out how to make it official.

I've been looking through a couple of california regulations and it doesn't look like it's needed for this. A basic business card seems to be good enough. The CHP issues california press cards which gives access to crime scenes and roadblocks etc. but i don't think that's necessary. For the most part business cards seems to do the trick for this type of reporting/photography.
I am really looking forward to teh rag. I would love to contribute whatever I can. With Viper magazine going further into the shitter (rumors of funding being withdrawn) Viper Rag could certainly fill a huge void in the Viper community.
Could the alley sell advertising in the Rag to help pay for the development and distribution of the Rag?
If you decide to mention that piece of crap Stratomaro2000, let me know. I know a guy with modest writing skills, modest photography skills, and a little extra time to do some stuff on the latest Viper...
While Clint is working on the content, I'd like to think we'll have coverage of events, interviews/Q&As, how-to tech articles, editorial pages where people can speak their mind, etc.
We have some resources available to turn it into a printed magazine if there is a demand; but I would expect the cost would have to be offset by advertising, which I havent really looked into just yet.
Here's how the system works (subject to some changes):
- Clint is Editor
- Any member can submit an article which can include images and is posted to a specific category
- Articles are then placed into a SUBMIT queue for Clint's review - he can edit and touch up any of the articles. When he has it ready to go, he changes the status to PENDING
- When he is ready to start a new issue, then he is given a list of PENDING articles he can include. The complex part is putting the articles together and once the issue is defined, then all articles are given a PUBLISHED status for archive.
- At this point the issue is in PREVIEW mode and can be viewed by people who submitted content and the editor (also thinking we can add staff) and any last minute issues can be ironed out.
- Clint then pubishes the PUBLISH button and the issue goes final and is featured in our bookshelf main page. From the bookshelf you will have access to read any of the issues which have been printed.
Images will be able to be placed through an article and we're working on a gallery that can be added to the page as well (possibly integrated with the Photo Galleries).
When its ready, people can go to the RagRack and see what issues are avaiable and read them online. We're also looking into technology to make the articles aviable via PDF download so they can be printed locally. It will be a system we build upon and the ideas are flowing - after not finding anything like it anywhere we're making this from scratch.
