Thinking about Nitrous...any suggestions?

Just got my Corsa exhaust and high flow cats installed by a friend and it sounds great.

Now I am thinking about adding Nitrous. Any suggestions, comments, and/or experiences will be great.

Was contemplating NX kit...any other ideas? Or maybe who is the best retailer for nitous.

Thanks

KingViper,
Nitrous is a temporary fix for your need for speed. I have a NX wet kit on my car and now that I have been installing superchargers lately...the nitrous is leaving and a blower is going on. Overall nitrous is very cool, my kit put me well in the 10's, but now I am looking for a little more. I think the propane kits make a little more torque than the wet kits and the propane is a lot safer than gas unless you run a higher octane gas while you are spraying. I always used 100 octane gas at the track, I guess I just felt a little safer. Other than that, Viper Spray said it best....get some sticky tires, you will need them.
Later,
Joe

How much would a safe nitrous setup run? How many "sprays" can you get off of an average sized bottle?

Re: Thinking about Nitrous...any suggestions?

I have heard the same thing from many guys we have installed NOS for over the years. At first they love it because its a lot of power for the cost and it helps them smack down a few other guys they have been trying to beat. But the newness wears off pretty quick and then they dont use it all that much if at all. Filling the bottle, heating the bottle, bottle not open when you want to race, something not working in the system, etc. these are all things that become a pain in the butt to the casual NOS user.

The guys who use NOS and keep it are the racers. They know when they are going to use it and are prepared to use it. It helps them attain the ET/speed that they want and its great and pretty reliable too. But the casual guy who might use it every now and then gets tired of it.

Heads/cam, SC, turbo, stroker - the power is there all the time. When the fast bike pulls up next to you and looks over and wants some you wont be able to ask him to wait a few minutes while you heat your bottle up to get decent bottle pressure.

From the numbers I am seeing a lot of guys get out of the Paxton, it seems to offer a pretty good bang for the buck and its there all the time.

Good luck with it!

100 shot of N2O = 8 full 1/4 mile passes

150 shot of N20 = 5-6

200 shot of N20 = 3-4

250 shot of N20 = 2-3

any more than that, you better bring a second bottle.

This is with a 10lb bottle.

p.s. keeping bottle pressure is a biaaaaaaatch.

Re: Thinking about Nitrous...any suggestions?

I see from your signature that you have a Gen 1. NOS works great on Gen 1's as long as you have a good exhaust.

Re: Thinking about Nitrous...any suggestions?

I have been down both roads with other cars and I will say that in my experiences there are more problems to overcome with supercharging than Nitrous.
Just my opinion.

I still like both methods, but I can not afford the cost of supercharging Vipers.

My first choice was BTR. I think he has the best setups going.

I am putting together a Nitrous system using billet components made in UK (solenoids). They have a US distributor. They seem to be state of the art and very cool looking as a bonus.
This billet stuff interest me so I will post pictures/dyno/track runs in the coming weeks.
I should have under $1400. total in the system. Without Dyno-testing.
Thanks,
Jason

All depends on your jetting and how long you are using it. Full length of the track or just certain gears.

Re: Thinking about Nitrous...any suggestions?

John is basically right but nitrous is the least costly and if you are worried about the bikes just keep the bottle warm and your finger on the trigger. You can do what john has done on occasions, use the gas for that added power. The TT that he built for his customer that was the first Viper/only to run in the 8's used a shot of nitrous. If you are looking for total speed (top-end) once the TT or SC cars start moving it is hard to hang with them.
A built motor giving 580 to 630 RWHP is plenty fast for the street without nitrous, now add nitrous to the equation.

One hold back is that the SC and TT does not need a bottle filled at 1: am when you are having fun and one last car pulls next to you but your bottle says zero.
