Tire Rack's price for a new set of OE tires ('01) is $995 delivered. Anywhere else I should try? Is Jon B a player here? I want a good price BUT I want NEW tires...not one's that already have an entensive shelf life. Also, some folks seem to buy wider front tires? What's the consensus here? (Does Mich make wider fronts?)

Thanks in advance Gents!

Re: New Pilot Sports

Jon B's price is a few $ cheaper. They will be new, just check the date code on them to verify this.

What about Tator? He no sell tires?

If you are going to track the car maybe check with 2 Viper Chuck to see what he says about size.

No, Chuck T does not sell tires. He recommends Tire Rack.

Re: New Pilot Sports

wider is not always better, depends upon what your goal is with the rubber.

fronts up to 295 and 345 rear are about the best possible combo before you get itno alterations, upsizing rims, road damage, speedo error, etc

Moj:

Am I correct that the larger sizes you mentioned are NOT made by Mich? Only Pirelli?

Re: New Pilot Sports

pirelli, BFG. i think mich makes up to 285 for front but i may be wrong. actually the pirelli pzeros are the tire to get, they cost alot compared to the "frenchie" michellins but from the writeups, theyre one bad ass hunk of rubber, im getting a set for sure, i think SB got a set for his bucket.

so, whatre you considering tires upgrades for; poser or performance?

Re: New Pilot Sports

PZero's are no better, no worse than the Pilots. PMUM and I ran them on the ACR at OTC 2002 along with about 8 other tire combos. The old Michelin MXX3's were the best trackable street tire as many Viper Days vets will also attest to. The Pirellis took their beatings after their initial chunking but would get pretty goddamn greasy after 3 laps.

If you buy tires based on magazine reports, you aren't doing yourself any favors. Ask folks who have to race on street tires first. Go 305's up front if you can. A Viper with anything less than that will be too pushy for my tastes.

Re: New Pilot Sports

Citysnake,

I have a dealer down here who sold me 2 rears for under 300 dollars. the store's name is performance tire and wheel and they stated that they were sent "surpluss" and were instructed to get rid of them,,blah, blah, blah. I know they have more as I didn't buy allof them and I"mt he only one around here who needs tires that size...if you want I can ask for you, just let me know. I'm sure they would ship, if they don't I"l get them and ship them to you...I
'm sure the price savings will be worth any shipping charges.

Re: New Pilot Sports

I would like to get the deal you got on the rears. Do they have similar pricing on the fronts? Please let me know the best way to purchase them. Can I go directly to that dealer? If so, please provide me the name of the person there that you dealt with and how I can contact that person. Thanks!
