took her in to get inspected. Inspector did the brake test and
upon turning around scraped a curb and cracked the front end on the
corner. he was going maybe 2 mph.
Well since the whole front piece is solid its not a cheap repair.
Front bumper is a $2,430 part. Add paint, stripes, and medallion and were out the
door at over $3,400. The business filed a claim to pay for it.
He wasnt hauling ass. He misjudged the length on the front end.
Anyways the only positive is the front end is the one with the
worst paint. So this will be fresh.
On another note it failed inspection. I had a CEL 2 months ago which
happened only 1 time. It was cleared and hasnt came back. I had 3
sensors read not ready. How many drive cycles does this thing need?
Im sure ive done at least 10.
I had no CEL at the inspection. They do not do a smog test.
They plug into the port and make sure all sensors are active.
So what I dont know is how many drive cycles are needed to
get them active. Some say 3 and some more.
So I need to drive alot yet have expired tags

Sorry to see this... Hopefully it turns out great when its all said and done. I'm feeling your pain though. Took mine for inspection yesterday and no one there could drive the car. An older guy got in and must not have pushed the clutch in enough when shifting into first and I heard that gut wrenching grinding sound ...It blows my mind that they think its safer for them to drive the cars rather than the owners. I drove it home and it seemed fine so hopefully everythings alright.

well this is a hassle and I learned a lesson.
The positive side is I get new paint and a new front end.
The front end will look alot better with with no scrapes underneath and fresh paint
with no rock chips.

Some helpful hints, as I have several vehicles that create "issues" come inspection time. And I've been dealing with this for over 2 decades now.
Assuming you are starting from scratch (you've never been there), and there is a state mandated braking test, or "road worthiness" test.
Pick a quick lube size place, where they they can't drive off so far you can't see your car.
Pick one that appears to have enough real estate to do the brake test on site. It only takes a few feet by the book to do the test.
When you hand them the keys, immediately go sit in the passenger seat. If they say that's a problem, you have choices:
What I would do...
-> Tell them you are no longer authorizing them to inspect your car, and that they need to immediately return your keys.
Alternative 1...
-> Tell them it's just for the road test, and you'll get out before they pull in the bay. If still a problem, see above.
Alternative 2, which I did with my buggy once. It does work...
-> Inform them that you are legally authorized to ride in the vehicle, and if they refuse to proceed with the inspection, that you'll report them to the state, as they cannot refuse to inspect your vehicle. Yes, they can flunk it (don't ask me how I know this... ), but they as a state inspection center have to initiate the inspection process unless you do something criminal or they deem the car is unsafe.

I use a Pennzoil lube center that I drive by every day. The road test is to the bay in the back, and when it's done, they let me back it out and be on my way.
Bottom line is, if you sense anything funny, ANYTHING... leave. If they grin, smirk, act arrogant, seem bossy, LEAVE!

Great suggestion, but does not eliminate the road test. Two separate things.
Does your inspection require smogging? Thats odd, even with a check engine light we don't fail inspection in Virginia.
You must have lucked out. My dad was telling me that he was having a check engine light come on and off in his car in VA and they check to see if the check engine light has been reset within the last three on/off cycles to make sure that you didn't just turn it off and drive in.
Did they tell you the 3 sensors not reading ready? I would also suggest getting a good data logger (torque,ScanXL) to see the readings.
After you clear a CEL in any car there is a certain amount of miles and drive cycles required in order for the sensors to read active. This is done so you can't just clear a CEL and get inspected if you have a real issue. In TX you can have a max of 2 sensors read not ready. I had 3 so I just need to drive more miles.
