I got a MGW Gripper knob for Christmas and it won't fit my Hurst short throw. I knew that going into it and figured hunting down some sort of adapter would be easy. So far I've found no definitive threads telling me the stock thread size, so I figured I'd try this route to see if anything came up. (Hurst thread size is 1/2"-20 but can't find shit on the stock/MGW knob.)
There is nothing wrong with it and I actually prefer it to the B&M I've had in 3 of my cars, but I'm also a whore for aesthetics and would rather have the MGW knob versus the white one that comes standard on the Hurst.
Another route would be if one of you dudes want the Hurst, let me know and I can pick up a B&M and ship you the Hurst.

Just chop off the threads from your stock shifter and weld it to your hurst..
I don't have a stock shifter.

Well, fucking weird. I guess the VPA site is wrong. They say that the Hurst has 1/2"-20 threads (VPA Link) and isn't compatible with the factory shift knob.
The B&M definitely works with the MGW (I had that setup on a few cars and loved it). I guess I'll do some digging. There was an old thread on the mOrg but it wasn't definitive.
Or go to a bolt store like Fastenall and get them to tell you what the thread is.
Tried that approach with Home Depot but all they had were coarse thread 1/2" bolts. I'll see what we have in the way of fastener stores down here. Thanks, Dave.
I had a MGW Gripper shifter knob on my 2000 red GTS before I sold it, and I tried doing the swap and it didn't work. I also tried my MGW First Strike on the Hurst shifter. Granted, there is no telling how old the Gripper was (it was on the car when I got it) and the First Strike was at least 5 years old, so maybe the design changed.
I'll give it a shot but I have doubts it will work. Thanks, mang.
Well, color me surprised. I tried both my Gripper and First Strike knobs on the Hurst shifter when I first got the car and neither fit. I assumed this one would be the same but I guess the thread pitch changed at some point. Either way, it works and the sky is NOT falling.
Andy (or anyone else with a MGW knob and B&M), can you shoot a pic of how high the shifter sits when you're done? The bottom of the MGW knob is a lot longer than it was on my other cars and this thing is sitting up pretty high.
fuk......that pic reminds me I hate the steering wheels in Gen IIs. I gotta get a new one.
The only piece that looks really dated once the stock wheels are gone

My setup came already on the car.. B&M with MGW.. will post a better pic when I get the chance...
