i always said, id like to see the 2 cars go on the dyno, get the numbers, then go do some pulls on the road. hopefully neither one would hold anything back on the dyno.......
2 legit cars, 2 legit guys, a few highway pulls to get the honest answer
Properly driven... the Viper because it makes the power easier and will come on much smoother then the Supra will. And the Viper will also produce more TQ to get it off the line quicker while the HP pulls it through the gears.
To put it in perspective... the 1K HP is like an adult and a small child walking along side each other. They're both going the same pace but the child is working alot harder to get there and maintain the pace.
With an equal start (no brake boosting by either car) my experience is that the Viper would win. The lower the roll-on, the worse it would be for the Supra.

hp is power, not rate. Your example of the child and adult walking side by side shows they are moving at the same rate. If we are to assume that the adult is moving more weight, than the adult is using more power.
I do however agree that with the same power, the viper would be quicker considering that it's torque curve should be broader, weight lower, and it is just a cooler looking car.

Mak, my example was in general terms and excluding weight. And simply how easy each car gets to and maintains the 1000 HP mark. A quality built TT Viper gets there and above smoothly like a seasoned runner, where as the Supra would be more like an occasional runner... both can get up to the same speed (HP) but it's easier (less boost) for the seasoned runner to do so.
Case in point, compare the dyno charts of Joseph Dell's CPE RT or Garth Weaver's UGR GTS to some Supra's running similar levels. Then again I have yet to see a Supra make over 1585+ RWHP... but I'm sure it's possible.

Just know this....an equally prepared Viper rated at the same HP will ALWAYS beat an MKIV supra in any race. Viper has better weight distribution 49/51 f/r and weights a little less overall (curb vs. curb) despite having a much beefier trans, rear-end, rolling stock (wider wheels/tires). And more importantly, the 8.0L V10 will have a MUCH better area under the curve, lightening fast turbo/boost responce, and more overall HP potential than ANY inline 6 on earth....stroker or not. Yes, you can build a certain supra to be able to beat 'Vipers' but never one which is equally prepared. ...The Viper is simply a faster platform with more potential...pure and simple.
...this is why almost all of the fastest, most famous supra owners sold their cars to step UP to a Viper years ago.....I've owned 6 MKIV supra's over the years (including a BL67 built auto one today), I would know...and I love supra's! But nevertheless, everything else being constant....
i personally haven't seen a viper vs a supra from a roll. i've seen a 6-speed viper vs a 6-speed supra at the track at tx2k7 this year when darin and stacey lined em up. was a very good race as well.

lookin gat the titles i thought you were going to show a viper beating "THE virtual works drag car".
I didn't know we should distinguish between THE VW car and just a car built by VW as we don't when describing the cars built by other tuners. We just refer to them as a Underground Racing car or a Heffner car, etc. not THE UR car. But maybe VW has only put out 1 or 2 cars so it is expected that the only car refered to as a VW car would be THE VW drag car.

In any case he got spanked, twice.
i'm sure VWR has built quite a few. just when seeing video's related to them i always see them tittled at something vwr and it's the race car is all. yep i agree he got beat twice. what was the camera car? it didn't look like it was a slouch either.
