Check it out! Forum fave Cindi Lux will be co-driving the Woodhouse Performance Viper Comp Coupe in its first-ever ALMS race in the GT2 category! Looks like Dodge and Kumho are the big parties interested here in seeing how the car will stack up against the Porsche, Ferrari and Panoz cars, as well as how the tires will perform in that category.
Hmmm ... went looking for another post on this before I put this one up and didn't see one. Yes, it is good news. I'm really interested to see how the car compares to the Porsche and Ferrari. Good competition between those two makes and seeing the Viper mix it up with Porsche in SWC should make it even more interesting in ALMS!
How competitive is it when Corvette runs against themselves?
GT1 is a dead class. The World Challenge Vettes should do the same as the Viper and run GT2.
Redsled, there were rumors that Lou Gigliotti was building a Corvette for a customer to run in ALMS GT2. It may still happen. Who knows. But if the Viper is competitive in ALMS GT2, then SPEED World Challenge may have to take action so the Vipers all don't jump from that series to ALMS.
Disturbed, I disagree the rules were made so the Corvette would win. If you take a look at 2006, the Aston Martin wound up being very competitive by the end of the year. And look who won the 2007 24-hour race in the GT1 class. I think the biggest reason AMR didn't come over here for 2007 was because AM was for sale. Now that the sale is done, rumors are that AMR will be back for the last 1/3 of the season.
Also, the Maserati was reasonably competitive as well. Reports suggest that it will run a few races this year too.
Saleen was competitive. They just didn't have the endurance. I went to the 2005 Laguna Seca ALMS event, and at the 2-hour mark, there were 4 cars, nose-to-tail for position. But at the 4-hour mark, Corvette had shown it had better endurance.
Don't get me wrong ... if you want to go up against the Pratt-Miller boys, you better bring some truckloads of cash and a top-notch race team. They're not easy to beat.
I honestly hope the Viper is competitive in GT2. That class is getting very interesting to watch!

American Lemans is run by IMSA
24 Hours of Lemans in run by FIA
To think there isn't favoritism in a class where the only two competitors are identical cars from the same team is being a little naive.
I don't think that the Viper will do very well. Just a few things I heard around the camp fire.
1) The car Can't podium
2) The car was sponsored but it wasn't (know what I mean)
3) Politics
I dont expect the car to podium in its first race especially against established teams. Hell that car was not even made for that series, I would be happy to see it place in the top 7.
It wouldnt suprise me if this was more Dodge beating around the bush to see how feasable it would be to convert the CC to GT2 spec, instead of them throwing down the money and running their own one off team to gather their own data.
The politics part I see Panoz bitching more than anyone else, they have a lot more to loose than Porshce and Ferrari if the CC does well.
What ever does happen I just want the Woodhouse crew to have a good weekend and stay out of trouble.

I can see it now...Lots of viper haters already think that Dodge isnt into GT1 Le Mans because they cant beat the Vettes..Now with this info of a CC trying to run in GT2 the haters will think they are right...Really would have preferred to have Oreca Vipers back in GT1 where they belong...Hopefully they wil at least finish in the top 10...

I am sure it will do just fine against the rest of the pack, assuming they dont penalize the viper too bad.
My DVR screwed up so I only got to see about 30 min of the coverage, I guess the announcers took time from their human interest stories and they did talk about the car a little.

Yeah, they talked about the car in the final 30 minutes of the race. The coverage completely skipped a 30-minute window where the Viper was in the pits for ~20 minutes.
Everyone involved seems pretty happy with the result.

Did they say what they had to change from the Speed GT spec to the GT2 spec?
