Got an invite from a great Viper guy to hit Motorsport Ranch today. I had never been to a track in my life. We started out in his car to show me the track - all I can say is wow - my palms were sweating - but what a ball, then he rode with me, then a "driver" sat co-pilot - from there I was on my own. The experience was unbelieveable! I would never had thought you could be pushing into a turn at 100, slide inside, carry the speed and power out the other side - all without spinning out. The first turn we went into when I was in his car I thought Oh Shit, no way can we make it through this - hell it did not even slide, and apparently he was just wrming the tires because the rest oif the ride got a helluva lot faster.
By the time I had run by myself a while I could really feel the track and boy does that car stick!
I ended my runs after someone said make sure and watch you gas cause thiese Vipers love the stuff - sure enough I was almost empty - and that was out of a full tank.
The biggest surprise was looking at my tires after the runs - wholy shit - rubber everywhere, and it was not like I was ever out of control and sliding out uncontrollably! Damn it was fun!!!
Hahaha, welcome to the wonderful world of Roadracing. Get out the check book it is addictive. The tires are chunked a little, no worries, what are you driving?
Wait until you're fast enough to boil your brake fluid, nothing like going 140 down a straight at WSIR into a 90 degree left and you have no brakes

Nothing like changing your brake fluid before a track day so there is no moisture to boil.
LOL, David I found out the hard way when I was a beginner going into turn #1 at Willow Springs, pretty lousy feeling in the pit of your stomach when you press down and nothing happens
Driving my new SRT10 vert. Did not run her real hard as far as R's (I only had 700 miles on it), but hit every turn as hard as I could. I have 1000 on it now so next time I go I will stretch her out all the way. It was a blast and yes very addicting.

Your descripition is the best I've seen to get someone interested in tracking the car. I can feel your enthusiasm.
If there are pieces of rubber on your tire, rather than pieces of your tire coming off, it is just rubber you picked up when you went off the line. It's normal, but unusual when you first see it.
