Hey Joe congrats on your win at Homestead in your T1 Viper.
But I am kind of confused on something that maybe you can help explain to me and other Viper owners....
Why would you have your son driving a Viper, cheering him on while he is on track and then once the session is over you're on a mission of spreading the gospel all around the paddock of how the Viper is too fast and should be slowed down? I am confused on this.
It seems rather odd that a father would use his son as pawn in a chess game of “the Vipers are too fast and we should slow them down more”. Please don’t think the Viper owners on this forum as idiots. Because believe me, they are not!! You live and breathe Corvettes and just want your GM dynasty to continue.
Boy it would be great if I was wrong. And you really truly are proud of the Viper. But it’s kind of hard to believe all we hear is how much you are lobbying and trying to convince all the official decision makers at SCCA to put a bigger restrictor plate and or more weight to this car? And the funny thing about these rumors...they are coming from other Corvette drivers who don’t have a problem with the Vipers.
You wouldn’t be doing this would you?
I don’t think this Viper community; especially the folks here in Viper Alley would be too impressed with your “illusion of being a Viper supporter”. Its ok if you “feel” the Vipers are too strong for the Corvettes but just be honest with your position. Don’t hide it.
Come on, the Vipers have just returned to SCCA T1 racing and we don’t need people pretending to be a Viper enthusiast and then at the same time trying to kill these cars behind everybody’s back.
This will be my only post on this matter but I just couldn’t sit back and watch this façade take place on this forum.
The Vipers are an awesome race car and I am so proud to be driving one out there on the track against anything that shows up. I will let the others form their own opinions.
The guy who spearheads every letter witing campaign, phone in telethon and chain letter email campaign to add weight, restrict the intake, limit suspension and tire size on the Viper to slow it down since 1999 and still going stong in 2006... is the same guy who runs an empire sponsored and built by GM AND built a T1 Viper with the sole purpose of staging races in an effort to make it look faster than it is thereby bringing credibility to his above efforts comes on this BB looking for CHEERLEADERS!?!? Yeah right! :fist:
Same shit joe tried on the VCA BB, it didn't work there either...
But... a win for a Viper is still a WIN staged or not so I'll stay PC here and I'll say Congrats to AJ on his win :thumb:
This is confusing. A guy invest time and money in a T1 Viper then campaigns for changing SCCA rules to favor GM? It makes no sense. Can somebody please explain the objective behind that reasoning?

Thanks for the insight as to what may be happening here Cindi and Scotty...
Scotty, Cindi, thank you for the entertainment, it is well appreciated. My head hurts from Chemistry, and this made me laugh. I mean, if I had a dollar for every time we were called the factory team, we wouldn't be running T1, I think F1 would be on the books (well maybe not). I love the staged race comments, I mean; nobody can stage a race better than you guys. *cough* the glen *cough* you know what else, its great being the only one to have beat John Heads up, since as you say, the cars are equal.
It was a good weekend, being the fastest nearly every session and all, then beating John was the icing on the cake, since try and he might, he couldn't catch me, and only got close after I got pinched by traffic a couple times.
I guess the only problem with the car is, there are no parts that can be found easily if something breaks, like at Sebring. Lucky for us was that Sean Roe had the pieces and we were able to get them and put it all back together.
This is confusing. A guy invest time and money in a T1 Viper then campaigns for changing SCCA rules to favor GM? It makes no sense. Can somebody please explain the objective behind that reasoning?
Not really once you understand it all...
joe owns phoenix performance, phoenix performance builds and sells literally 90% of the cars in T1 (about 130 or so nationwide) all except one of which are corvettes which brings us to the lone T1 Viper...
This is how phoenix makes money, building & selling, buying & trading corvette racecars, he has established quite a dynasty...
To add to that dynasty phoenix has won 5 of the 8 national championships held in T1 with GM hired gun john heinricy (and all the resources he brings) at the wheel which helps showcase the phoenix product. The last couple years there is another team out west that built faster corvettes than most phoenix cars possibbly exposing a chink in the armor...
NO Sooner did that team announce the 100% switch to Vipers then phoenix decides to build a Viper but before they ever even turn a wheel joe is talking about how much he loves the car and how many he's gonna build for customers at the same time he is screaming bloody murder murder to the sanctioning body they are too fast and what a bad thing it is to let this very expensive car be allowed to be competitive and how it will ruin the class...
The reason for all this? phoenix is born and bred through and throuhgh GM and a competitive threat from a Viper is a big problem, if the Viper is allowed to run competitively it could ruin the GM dynasty AND the phoenix dynasty... So the idea of abosorbing the depreciation of one T1 Viper over whatever period of time it takes to stage a few races and cry to the sanctioning body for more restrictions on the Viper is a drop in the bucket of what GM & phoenix would be willing to spend to protect the GM dynasty that is T1... [b]CORRECTION "Used to be T1" We WILL be changing that in 2006! :thumb:
i love when hobbies get turned into this.. thanks for making it such a nice place to spend a weekend for the guys who dont do this for a living.
Hey Ryan,
we're just a gang of freinds (with day jobs) havin a few giggles racin our hot rods and trying to make way for a few others who wanna race their hot rods too I laid it out what these guys do, you guys can decide for yourselves what you think about it...
The best part is (and I gotta hand it to them) the sanctioning body sees right through all this nonsense and has refrained from making kneejerk decisions based on one off staged ballets...
All I know is we're havin a BLAST! What could be better than screamin through the twisties at a buckfitty hearin that smoooooooth V10 roar...! Vipers, Porsches & TONS of Corvettes racin the hell out of each other FREEKIN ROCKS!
This is good shit. Scotty, you never answered my question in one of your other threads about whether you guys were developing any performance parts for the SRT-10 from your racing to market.

Sorry I didn't answer earlier Kenny,
I meant to and then just plain forgot... The short answer is no we really don't get to do much of that kind of stuff... It's more like tweek the stuff the manufacturer built in the first place... That's kind of the nature of our game, "run what *THEY* brung only run it better than the other guys" There is Sooooooo much potnetial in these cars and the difference between gettin it right and gettin it wrong is seconds per lap!
The rulesmakers keep a perty tight rope on us for keepin it close to stock and to be honest the Dodge Boyz built a pretty smokin hot rod to begin with :thumb:
We have found our Viper SRT10 to be one FAST SMOKIN' HOT ROD, that gets better every time on track. It looks great, sounds great and has been very fast and Far better than the Corvettes... AJ seems to like it a lot and judging from all of the Viper folk that stopped by to see it at Sebring and Homestead, they like it too...
Dodge has built a fine car that the engineers and designers can be very proud of. It is reliable and fast...
By the way, a few fact corrections.... Our cars have won 6 of the last 7 T-1 Championships. Jeff Altenberg won in 1999 and was runnerup in 2000... We are not financed by any factory or tire company (like some teams we know ) We do use Hoosier tires on the Viper, and they work very well. we use Goodyears on the Corvettes and will be using Kumhos on our T-3 cars.. We get some tires for free, but I pay for 99% of it all myself. I like it that way. No one tells me what to do... AJ makes his own decisions on what he drives and he does drive pretty well for an 18 year old... He keeps getting better... All of our cars are 100% SCCA rules compliant..
I like fast cars with big motors, so the Viper is a natural... So does John H and we have worked on developing the Viper... We like engineering racing sloutions that work. We do not sell lots of hard parts just to sell parts...
We do Customer work on a lot of GM cars, but that has changed over the years... We also do customer work on Fords, Dodges, Subarus, Hondas, Toyotas and just about anything that fits in Kurt's shop... Vipers and SRT models are a growing segment that we will devote a lot of attention to...
Look for us at the SCCA races... And stop by to see the car and we will show some of our innovations!!!
So , do you or don't you think the Vipers should be restricted any more than they are now?,(bigger restrictor plate and or more weight). Answer this and the drama will unfold on its own.
