That white looks real good + the 6 speed gearbox. You guys dig the color?
The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 features an SRT-exclusive 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine mated with a new-for-2009 six-speed manual transmission . The first for a new-generation HEMI-powered car — that produces 375 horsepower (280 kW) and 404 lb.-ft. of torque (548 N•m) when running on premium fuel. The Dodge Challenger R/T can go from zero to 60 mph in less than six seconds.
That is pretty awesome. The reason that I would never consider one is that it has at least 600 lbs too much awesome. Great idea to make a fucking porker just in time for CAFE standards to get stricter.

amen to that - unfriggen believable they build such a beautiful car, take off 50hp from the older SRT8 motor, and make it so dam heavy!
There is no excuse a crash test certified performance car that size cannot be under 3500lbs with modern technology. It just takes thinking outside the traditional square
The bean counters are too thick to realize adding a couple of grand to production costs for a lighter platform (just as strong and stiff) could be easily passed on to the customer to get a lighter car that got better mileage and had far better performance.
With the pressure to be greener and more fuel efficient a car this heavy is unacceptable and proves they are not serious. The original E-body was a strong solid car, but add a new generation Hemi 6.1 and modern suspension and alloy wheels and they'd come in around 3200lb without aluminum or fiberglass panels...
checked the website...the 5.7 makes 375 HP and 404 torque...not the 6.1. Personally, given the lifetime warranty on the 5.7 as well as the ability to run 87 gas, I think it would make a pretty decent daily driver. Gas mileage is kinda crappy, but no worse than a small truck. 425 HP available with both trannies.
I never would have considered white but that looks great. I believe its two years until you can get a convertible with a 6 speed. By then maybe the dealer rip offs might have ended.
Look on the other side to. This car looks better than the new Camaro. Also, the Challenger has the good Brembo calipers + slotted rotors. Where on the Camaro, you get just the regular cast calipers /brakes..
Looks nice, but an 2dr overweight porker. All they did was put a different body and different interior on the 300C/Charger chassis which in itself is based off the old E-class. It it was sub 3500lbs, I'd prefer it much more.
A 6.4 liter version, with an estimated 500 or more hp, is still expected to be offered in a future model of the Challenger, possibly debuting in the 2010 model year.
According to oh20, a Challenger 800 pounds lighter than the production version will be available for racing. This will be a special factory package built for NHRA-sanctioned Stock Eliminator drag racing. Features will include a unique serial number sequence, variations of current Hemi and 5.9 liter Magnum engines, automatic or manual transmission, and special lightweight features including:
Lightweight front fascia support system
Composite lift-off hood with functional scoop
Lightweight cooling module with electric fan
Special modified drop-out front crossmember
Lightweight drag race-only front brake assembly
Seats to accommodate six-point harness
Special Body-in-White modified for drag racing
This is one serious package that does away with such frills as windshield wipers, power windows, HVAC System, sound deadener and rear seats to create one lightweight and intense racing machine.
The information listed above is incorrect. The 6.1L makes 425 HP in the SRT8 with either auto or manual trans. The 5.7L in the R/T package will make 370hp/375hp depending on auto/manula trasn respectively. Also the auto will have the MDS for better fuel mileage as you cannothave MDS in the manual trans.
I believe Chrysler has done a great thing with this car. You will be able to buy a Challenger from the low $20's (with V6 SE package) up to low $40's and anywhere in between.

You really think it looks better than the new Camaro? I am just the opposite. There is nothing about this car that excites me. And to be truthful if it wasnt for the history of this car I think it would have been a complete flop.
