I'm tring to justify getting a SRT QC truck. I hear gas mileage is around 10 mpg adv. is this true? My question is, how can I improve the gas mileage of the truck??? Anyone have any ideas??? Please Help me ! I really want to buy one but can't justify 10mpg.
cold air in
hot fuel (vaporizes much better and despite claims to the contrary - does not hurt power if accompanied by 1 above plus a reprogram)
an AEM or reprogrammed chip - for lean cruise and plenty of advance under vacuum, plus lean out to around 12.5:1 at WOT instead of the factory 10:1 +/- which is way rich.
Run Snows Performance water injection and run even leaner!
Run headers, 3" exhaust, and high flow cats
result will be more power everywhere than stock and much better cruise economy.
The problem is the money all that costs will buy you a lot of gas... so your choice.
If you did only one thing - get a rechip done to lean it out - they are pig rich!!! Leaning it out will make more power too but it may run hotter in some climates.
If you are concerned with something as petty as gas mileage with this truck then the SRT is WAY too outrageous for you. I suggest you go buy something practical like a diesel.. or a Toyota.. or even better yet.. a Prius.

First off, thanks for the info torque. so your telling me i need to put on mods that make more power to get better gas mileage, hmmmm...
Right now i'm getting 13 mpg out of my 03 reg cab long bed ram with the 4.7 V8. I really want the quad cab srt but I need it to get at least 12.5 mpg. I'm tring to find an solution to the problem, not tring to tell myself this isn't the truck for me.
By the way, I know this is definately the truck for me AND I already own a Viper ! (and thats the problem, I'm addicted to the power !)

What the hell is AN SOLUTION? Not to mention tring and definately?
If you are that worried about 2.5 miles per gallon I guess I would look for something else. It really isn't a practical every day drive, mantainance will be higher on it also.
I don't know how many miles you put on. But over 50,000 miles, figuring $2.50 per gallon, you will spend about $2,900 more for gas getting 10mpg vrs 13mpg.
That said $2,900 doesn't get you much for mods on a SRT, maybe headers and exhaust system, and that wont improve you milage hardly any. What I am saying is it is cheaper to pay for the extra gas then spend a pile of money trying to make it get better milage.
