towing with an srt10 regular cab/manual transmission

Anyone know why the manual says Do Not tow with a regular cab srt10 with a manual tranny?? Everything looks the same as other 1500 pickups with the towing pkg, and it even has a knockout in the bumper and a 4 wire plug. What possible harm can you do to the truck??? Would towing void the warranty??

I think it is a suspension and clutch issue.

Just had one installed on my 05 RC:

Check out srt10forum.com, under the forums, under "General Discussion" for my post, pictures, and part numbers.

I would link, but this site blocks links until you have 5 posts

You can also go to VTCOA.com, one of the vendors tows regularly with his regular cab. He added air bags in the rear and has towed 5000+ pounds quite often.

It's the clutch that's the weak link. Take it real easy with the stock clutch or upgrade to a Centerforce and towing is no problem.

Oh yeah, and VTCOA.COM is the best Ram SRT site for info.

That is what I was told by our dodge dealer. They told me if I put the hitch on the warranty goes away... So we traded it for a diesel.

It's not only the clutch but also the gearing in the rear:

2004 = 4:11 = towing a twinkie voids warranty (as per the manual)
2005 = 4:56 = allows for towing up to 2000 lbs. (as per the manual)

If Dodge had said okay to towing with the 2004 trucks, they would have been replacing about...oh....2004 clutches that first year.
Even with the 2005, you should be careful while towing. Be smart and you shouldn't have any problems.

2004 = 4:10

JMB Justin towed a Chrysler 300C from Detroit to St. Louis with the 4.10 rear gears. Didn't hurt anything and didn't burn up his OEM clutch. Just gotta be careful.
