Hey GTSDean - I sent you a really long message. Took 3 other messages plus this one. Go down 3 messages and start there. Seems like you are the man for Gen 2 setup and I was hoping to draw on your experience.

I have scales and corner weighting on car shows 49.7% cross weight with driver and 49.3% without driver. Difference in weight on front tires is 100 lbs with driver and 50 lbs without driver (looking for approx equal weight on front tires to help non-ABS braking).

I am pondering raising the steering rack about 0.5" to help restore the original steering rack arm angle to minimize bump steer.

I am running brakes nearly identical to yours I believe. Stock brakes with slotted rotors, 40 mm rear calipers, 993 vents for front, SS lines, Motul 600 (you use AP550 I believe).

    1. What ride height are you running with your Penske coilovers? Stock? Lowered?
    2. Do you think I am using the rear caster brackets correctly correctly with the digital level?
    3. Is raising the steering rack reasonable?
    4. Do have any set up suggestions? Things you would do different?
    5. The lettering on my front brake calipers has turned brown. Did yours do the same thing?

Took the car to the shop that services all the track cars in the Seattle area and they were very familiar with setting rear caster (they had tools to do Porsches). They determined that with the car dropped so low they couldn't get the rear caster any better than +2.0 deg combined with best rear camber of 2.2 deg. Which they felt was unacceptable for a street driven car (too much tire wear for one). They felt that if I reinstall the stock caps to raise the car about 0.5" front and back we should have enough adjustment to get the aggressive street alignment I am after.

Front camber -1.6 deg Front Caster +6.0 deg Front toe 0.0 deg
Rear camber -1.2 deg Rear caster +1.0 deg Rear toe 0.16 deg (approx .06" toe in)

Hey GTSDean - I was hoping I could pick your brain on few suspension set up items. You seem to have a very good handle on setting up these cars.

1998 GTS with 70,000 miles. I've had it since 2012 and started going to track days (HPDE days, point to pass in designated zones) at the local road course last summer and have never had so much fun.

Bought the Miller 9660 kit (per your posts) this winter and used it to help install poly urethane control bushings. Also installed Eibachs (can't afford quality coilovers yet) and thin spring caps (1.5" total drop in rear, 1.0" total drop in front). Stock Koni shocks are adjusted to full stiff rebound. As you have posted setting rear caster is important for proper handling. And 9660 kit includes brackets for rear. As I don't have access to a DRBIII, and instructions for inclinometers included in 9660 kit implied they are just a digital level, I found a 2" square digital level that I was able to attach to the 9660 rear caster brackets.

    Hi Dean,
Is there any way you could repost or send me your spec sheet on adjusting the front end of a gen 1or 2 viper? I just bought a 94 and have had the fascia off once trying to line things up and I think I made it worse. Any help you could give would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, A direct question...should I remove the plastic nose from the "glass fiber core support" and try to line up from there? Just a bit confused right now. Hope that question made sense???
    Thanks,
    Tim
