Re: Ford GT $80k over MSRP???
Yeah, I've got that Pop Sci magazine. Good article.
Ford originally announced that they would build 3 Ford GTs the first year (for Ford's 100th anniversary), and then go into full volume production in 2004. But they certainly could alter their plans as a perk to dealers if they want to. Many of the Ford GTs are going to be setting in various showrooms undriven just to draw people into the dealerships anyway.
They were shooting for a $100K price, but I'm guessing around $130K, plus the scalpers and dealer markeups of around $40K-$50K+.
The Recent examples of the GT2, Z8, and 360 Spyder showed that some people will gladly pay $50K-$100K more to get their toy when they are still HOT.
Sure, it's a waste of money, but most of the people who can afford these cars won't blink at an extra $100K here and there as it's a tiny portion of their income.
