Re: Ford GT $80k over MSRP???

I'd gladly buy a GT-40 for $80,000 over sticker than pay sticker price for a FUGLY SRT-10!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough said, even though it looks like I'm in the minority on this one. Some of you guys seem a little too attached to your Vipers and think it is the only thing out there, and get defensive when some new car comes out that might be the new king of the hill. There are more cars out there than Vipers. I love all exotic sports cars and I love my Viper, but if I won the lottery my garage would be filled with dozens of mega-buck exotic cars, not just a Viper.

Re: Ford GT $80k over MSRP???

I heard that they are building 8 GT's in the first year and that those will go to the "Presidents Conference" dealers? According to my source Ford awards their top 8 dealers this "Presidents Conference" award.....

I dunno, sounds like something Ford would do.

As far as the 92 Viper. At that time I had a Claims Manager friend who sold his house and moved in with his girlfriend to buy a brand new Viper. I think sticker was in the low to mid $50K range... he paid in the low $70K range.

He told us it was an "investment".... I'd bet he only has 500 miles on that Viper to this day!

Pick up this Month's issue of Popular Science for an in depth development of all of the components involved in building this car and see why its defined as WOW!

Jay K.

Article is really effective in explaining where most all of the individual components come from.

Yeah, I've got that Pop Sci magazine. Good article.

Ford originally announced that they would build 3 Ford GTs the first year (for Ford's 100th anniversary), and then go into full volume production in 2004. But they certainly could alter their plans as a perk to dealers if they want to. Many of the Ford GTs are going to be setting in various showrooms undriven just to draw people into the dealerships anyway.

They were shooting for a $100K price, but I'm guessing around $130K, plus the scalpers and dealer markeups of around $40K-$50K+.

The Recent examples of the GT2, Z8, and 360 Spyder showed that some people will gladly pay $50K-$100K more to get their toy when they are still HOT.

Sure, it's a waste of money, but most of the people who can afford these cars won't blink at an extra $100K here and there as it's a tiny portion of their income.

Re: Ford GT $80k over MSRP???

Thought I would revive this post since the Ford GT is reviewed in this months Motor Trend. Now stating around $150,000. Hmmm. Did not sound like saleable cars this year either. Other tidbit I remember is the weight is now stated as "under 3400 lbs." Sounds like the same weight as the SRT. What happened to the 2800 lb target that was stated earlier??? 3400 lbs and 500 hp puts it square with the SRT for performance. Not exactly a leap forward. Where is Coletti and his mouth now??? Also, every time a Ford person was quoted they denigrated the Viper and stated the Ferrari 360 was their target. Ah, change the target so you are not embarrassed about the outcome.

Also, and quite interesting, MT gave statistics for Ford (100 year anniversary) and their quickest and fastest cars to date suck. Both were Mustangs.
