What is the ideal amt of HP most are trying to achieve. I always lived by that, "It's Never Enough" motto. But what does everyone else think is "enough" to live with?
That's a good point. There comes a time where too much power only hurts you in a race or at the track. The key is to find what is actually gonna be usable power. It does no good to have 850 rwhp like I did if you can only use it in a roll on race.
I agree with the 600-700 RWHP range. Sure, 1000hp sounds great on paper, it's just not practicle and you can't use the cars full ability.
My old 95 TA dynoed at 657RWHP @12psi. This was enough to run in the low 10's and still pull 25mpg on the highway. The powerband was VERY usable, and it was so stable my mother could drive it (and she did on several occasions).
I'm shooting for 600hp to the wheels ~6psi from my turbos. I chose a turbo that is very well suited for my application, low boosting output but instant spool.. should deliver power from off idle to 5000 RPM no problem (where most of the viper torque is anyway). 600hp should be easily achievable with stock internals and produce RELIABLE power.
Lets face it... 600RWHP is a shitload for a street car.. how many do you run across on avg that are pushing those numbers? Even the heavily built street supras don't tip over the 650RWHP mark, because it becomes unstreetable and unpractical at that point.
go and buy the new issue of newsweek. They had a long article on Lutz and how he had to fight battles to make the classic caddie with 1000hp V16 engine. I found the article really interesting!
