Well to be completely honest, I have never been a fan of the SLR and this appears to have the same mirrors. The F1 had a similarly simple design but it worked. This doesn't.
These images are also very similar to recently published renders and drawings so this may very well be the real deal.

The back end reminds me of:
1) Cheshire cat
2) The Grinch
3) Don Vito with the orange in his mouth, frightening the kid.

Looks like a rounded Testarossa with vertical side vents versus horizontal. Like the original much better.

Can't say I like it so much. All I know so far is the design of it, but it's not pleasing. However, I feel I'm being a little biased as no matter what I will be comparing it to the F1 powerhouse- big shoes to fill.

Made a quick photoshop nip/tuck just for grins.
Drop a 700hp motor in it and keep the weight ~2800lbs.
It'll never live up to the F1 but I'd drive it.

That top photopshop looks like the original. Just a little. Rethink your brain.
BIG GUN... Nice edit... I love the mid section however McLaren will want another mid engined supercar... not a record setter (think SLR - mid engined.. been there done that).. Damn Mercedes) (BMW V10 - Think of the knowledge gained from the Formula 1 engine... the F1 engine was beautiful) McLaren are looking for different records.... records that haven't been set yet - see Gordons 'City car'. Technology is amazing.... [FUTURE]Petrol is crap.[/FUTURE].
I'm sure McLaren is just patterning a general shape however I really hope the new car looks as good as it demands. The F1 was an icon and the McLaren name deserves nothing less than a world beater. Period. They have built big shoes... Fill them!

It sort of looks like a Gallardo that they beat every hard angle out of. Not my favorite for sure.
