Like it's been said a couple times in here ( or at least alluded to ) - sorry about his luck, but he wasn't standing where he should have been. If he wanted to stand there - he needed to have his head on a swivel and at least pay attention.

Racing pit areas are dangerous places, and being in such places requires full attentiveness. It's even worse in the "hot pits" - where this guy was hit. It's one thing to run someone over in a garage or paddock, but I don't feel bad at all for the guy being hit in the hot pits. He wasn't paying attention, plain and simple.

That was a tragic accident, but he was in the wrong. I remember watching a CART race some years back when Willy T. Ribbs and another car got tangled up in a chicane. Corner workers got them separated and Ribbs dropped the clutch to get going again. One of the workers got hooked by the back tire and slammed to the ground - DOA. Shit happens.
